Learning outcomes

The course aims at giving the student the theoretical and practical instruments necessary to a Medicinal Chemist in the field of Qualitative Organic Analysis, performed by using laboratory and instrumental techniques.
This objective is achieved through the study of the composition of analytical samples, through the knowledge and the use of general fractioning techniques as a method for purifying mixtures, the determination of fundamental physical constants, the solubility in reactive and inert solvent, the functional groups identification by the use of characteristic reactions, the characterization of unknown substances by synthesizing their crystalline derivatives, and through the identification of compounds described in the Official Pharmacopoeias.
Another objective of this course is to provide the theoretical and practical bases for using instrumental techniques to identify, separate and characterize substances of pharmaceutical interest.
Final objective of the course is a qualified preparation of the students on the qualitative analysis of organic substances and on the practical professional work in a Chemical-Pharmaceutical Laboratory.
