Learning outcomes

Knowledge: The course aims to provide students with the basis for understanding the genetic mechanisms that regulate the hereditary transmission of characters, also providing basic elements of mutagenesis and analysis of quantitative characters. The course will provide information on the real and potential applications of genetics, the improvement of cultivated plants with special reference to the vine.
Competences: the student will have acquired the competence on the genetic mechanisms underlying the legacy of the characters and the competence to perform formal genetics exercises; expertise on genetic improvement methods adopted today: crossing and selection, physical and chemical-induced mutagenesis, nucleic acid extractions, gene isolation, cloning, genetic transformation.
Skills: the ability to use the basic tools of a Genetics laboratory; the ability to extract nucleic acids; address the issues related to the induced mutations; the ability to manipulate and clone gene sequences.
