Electromagnetism basics, with a particular attention to physical methodologies interesting for their applications in the Chemistry field. Electrostatics: electric field; electric potential; the Gauss Law; electrostatic energy density; dipole moment, polarization and dielectrics. Vector operators. Electric current, conductors and electric circuits. Magnetism: Lorentz force; magnetic moment; magnetic induction; magnetic circuits. The Maxwell equations. Electromagnetic waves: generation, propagation and detection; the Poynting vector. Optics basics: geometrical optics; interference and diffraction. The physical optics.
