1) To gain basic knowledge on the role of metal elements in biologic systems.
2) To gain knowledge about problems associated with the environmental dispersion of metal compounds.
Syllabus:
Characteristics, properties and roles played by groups 1 and 2 metals and by coordination compounds based on iron, copper, cobalt and molybdenum within the biological systems. Toxicity of heavy metals and water potabilization. Anticancer compounds based on ruthenium, titanium and platinum. Carbonyl complexes as CO releasing molecules. Technetium compounds for diagnostic use.
