The paleopathological study of human skeletal remains is able to provide a series of useful information for reconstruction of the living and health conditions of ancient populations. The course is aimed at dealing with the main issues related to the study of diseases in Antiquity and, therefore, to prepare students interested in the complex interrelationships that linked man and disease over the course of time. The main pathologies observable on skeletal remains will be examined, including traumatic lesions, non specific infections, dento-alveolar diseases, tuberculosis, treponematosis, leprosy, stress markers, tumors, metabolic diseases, degenerative joint diseases, and congenital diseases.
