The course aims to provide students with a theoretical and historical tool-box oriented to an understanding of the construction methods of political representation. It looks at the various theories that have occurred in modern and contemporary times: from representation in the old regime to the mandate constraint; from corporate representation to individual representation, based on interests or personality; from liberal theory representing citizens to collectivist theory representing groups.
Students are expected to gain a specific knowledge oriented to identify historically the various theories of representation and to recognize every theory present now in the public debate on political representation
