Learning outcomes
The student who completes the course successfully will be aware of a solid knowledge of the historical, political and social basis of his/her professional issues. Particularly, these skills will be developed referring to the category of Social Control and Deviance, following a double line of research:
- On the one hand, the analysis of main authors of the sociology of deviance and the transformation of the social control (and of its monopolist, the State), aims to help the student to pinpoint the nexus between the professional issue and the topic of Power;
- On the other hand, the analysis of the historical evolution of the relationship between social control and deviance will allow the students to understand the way by which some categories of marginal groups and deviants (for example, the inmates) have been an historical and social construction. With these skills the students will be able to carry out his/her professional issue with a critical attitude.
