Learning outcomes
The objectives of the course are to provide basic knowledge on the structure and functioning of the wine market. In the first part the course shows the mechanisms of operation of the wine market, from the entry of the countries of the so-called "New World" to changes in consumption patterns, from the types of companies to the profitability of companies. In the second part we focus on the intervention of public authorities in regulating the market and correcting its failures.
At the end of the course students should:
- know how to interpret the main facts of the wine world (evolution of supply and demand, consequences of the entry of new competitors, national and supranational policies) based on the conceptual categories acquired in class;
- be able to read and interpret industrial economics reports at regional, national and international level;
- provide opinions and make qualitative forecasts on the effects that industrial policies can have on the dimensional growth of firms and on the phenomena of market concentration.
