The course aims to provide students with the basic theoretical, methodological, and applicative knowledge of
psychiatry with a specifically psychosocial viewpoint in emphasising the more inter-individual nature and
dimension of knowledge about the social determinants and physio-pathogenetic mechanisms of mental
disorders, focusing on the salience of the subject for social service sciences. After a socio-historical
examination of the discipline, in-depth emphasis will be placed on the typical tools of the discipline, the
interview and the "contexts" (e.g., prisons) in which disorders, including addictions and aggression, are framed
and addressed through the bio-psycho-social model to provide an up-to-date framework useful to the social
work profession.
