L'obiettivo del corso è quello di fornire una base teorico-concettuale piuttosto ampia e alcuni strumenti di base per poter misurare, analizzare e interpretare alcuni tra i principali fenomeni economici e gli aggregati macro-economici. Le varie metodologie di analisi sono presentate seguendo un approccio critico, mettendone in luce vantaggi e limiti.
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demostrate the knowledge of the basic structure of the Italian National accounts and of the main macroeconomic aggregates that originates from them. He/she will also be able to find and critically read some of the most important available statistics of macro-economic interest, including the ones concerning the labour market, and he/she will learn some basic tools for the analysis of economic time series. Moreover he/she will know the basic theory of price indices and will have the ability to operate with them so as to measure either the price variation over time and space or the nominal and real variation of a given economic value (or aggregate) over time and across different nations. In addition he/she will be aware of the paradoxes and mistakes that can derive from the common habit to evaluate society's well-being by means of per capita GDP and will be informed of other better approaches to the measurement of well-being.
La verifica delle conoscenze sarà oggetto della valutazione di un elaborato scritto e/o un colloquio previsto per ogni sessione d'esame.
In the written exam (1 hour and half) the student will be asked to answer theoretical questions and to solve exercises. In particular the student will be assessed on his/her ability to choose the appropriate statistical tool and to correctly apply it. The student will also be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the topics thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.
Al termine del corso lo studente sarà in grado di:
- comprendere la struttura di base dei conti nazionali e dei principali aggregati macro-economici che originano da questi.
- reperire e leggere criticamente alcune delle più importanti statistiche macroeconomiche, comprese quelle riguardanti il mercato del lavoro;
- operare con gli indici dei prezzi al fine di misurare la variazione di questi sia a livello temporale che territoriale e saprà correttamente valutare le variazioni sia nominali che reali degli aggregati economici;
- analizzare ed interpretare a livello descrittivo le serie storiche di caratteri socio-economici;
- Infine sarà consapevole dei paradossi e degli errori che derivano dalla diffusa quanto scorretta abitudine di valutare il benessere della società tramite il PIL pro capite e sarà informato sull'esistenza e opportunità di approcci più adeguati all'analisi e misura del benessere.

Prima dell'esame finale, lo studente avrà la possibilità di verificare il proprio stato di apprendimento per mezzo di incontri individuali con il Docente durante i ricevimenti.
Before the final examination, studends will have the possibility to verify their learning level by means of the weekly tutorship provided by their professors.
Lo studente sarà in grado di comprendere il significato delle strutture e degli indici statistici studiati, sapendo interpretare correttamente i valori da essi assunti in appropriati contesti applicativi. Avrà, tuttavia, un approccio critico, avendo presenti i principali limiti teorici e applicativi dei metodi e delle misure trattati nel corso.
Students will be able to understand the meaning of the structures and statistical indexes studied, knowing how to correctly interpret the values they assume in appropriate application contexts. However, they will have a critical approach, having in mind the main theoretical and applicative limits of the methods and measures dealt with in the course.
Durante le lezioni si svolgono insieme agli studenti degli esercizi per verificare le conoscenze apprese riguardo ai metodi di misura e analisi e si pongono domande o problemi teorico/concettuali su cui gli studenti vengono stimolati a riflettere e a trovare risposte.
During the lessons some exercises will be done together with the students so as to allow them to verify their degree of knowledge and learning and to ask for clarifications. Moreover students will be encouraged to reflect and find answers to certain questions or theoretical / conceptual problems.
Per partecipare al corso e superare l'esame si ritiene utile la conoscenza della strumentazione analitico-quantitativa fornita nei corsi di Matematica generale e di Statistica.
In order to take part in the course and pass the exam, it is useful to know the analytical-quantitative tools provided in the courses of General Mathematics and Statistics .
Il Corso verrà svolto prevalentemente con lezioni frontali in classe con ausilio di slides.
Potranno venire proposte attività didattiche integrative, come la stesura di una tesina su argomenti specifici e/o un test intermedio di verifica, che saranno comunque facoltative.
• Dal sito di elearning del corso sarà possibile scaricare materiali didattici aggiuntivi al libro di testo. Inoltre nel sito ci saranno le comunicazioni docente-studenti, pubblicazione di test per esercitazioni a casa, programma di esame e i risultati delle prove scritte.
• Lo studente potrà interagire con il docente nei ricevimenti
The course will mainly be held by means of classroom lectures with the help of slides.
Additional educational activities may be proposed, such as the drafting of a paper on specific subjects and / or an intermediate verification test, which will be optional in any case.
• From the e-learning site of the course it will be possible to download additional teaching materials to the textbook. Also on the site there will be teacher-student communications, exam program and written test results.
• The student can interact with the teacher during weekly tutorship meetings.
Il corso affronta quattro diverse aree tematiche.
Prima parte. Elementi di base della Contabilità nazionale
- A cosa serve, come è nata e come si è evoluta la Contabilità nazionale;
- Rappresentazione del sistema economico nei conti nazionali;
- Gli operatori economici e le principali unità di analisi degli aggregati economici;
- Definizione e metodi di calcolo dei principali aggregati economici;
- La stima dell'economica sommersa e dell’economia illegale;
Seconda parte: Il mercato del lavoro: principali statistiche su occupazione e disoccupazione
- L’occupazione e la disoccupazione misurata dall’Indagine sulle Forze di Lavoro
- L’occupazione nei conti nazionali
Terza parte. Confronti temporali e spaziali degli aggregati economici.
- I Numeri indici semplici;
- I Numeri indici composti;
- L’indice Istat dei prezzi al consumo;
- La misura e la percezione dell’inflazione;
- Confronto di aggregati economici nel tempo e misurazione della crescita economica;
- I Numeri indici per i confronti internazionali: parità monetarie e parità economiche.
Quarta parte. Economia, ambiente e benessere
- Spunti di riflessione sulla misura del benessere, partendo dalla critica al Prodotto interno lordo (PIL) come indicatore di progresso di un sistema economico.
- Ricerche e evidenze empiriche sulla relazione tra crescita economica e benessere.
- Cenno ai principali approcci metodologici alla misura del benessere.
- Cenno alla misurazione della sostenibilità ambientale tramite l'Impronta Ecologica.
This course aims at providing some basic tools for measuring, analysing and interpreting some of the main economic aggregates and phenomena. The various methods of analysis are presented according to a critical approach by pointing out their advantages and limitations with respect to other possible alternatives. The course is divided into four parts; the first one deals with basic elements of the national accounting; the second one is dedicated to the measurement of well-being and sustainable development; the third part focuses on price indices that are used for measuring inflation and for comparing economic aggregates over time and space. Moreover it includes an introduction to time series analysis; finally, the fourth part deals with the main concepts and measures that refer to the labour market.
Tutto il materiale didattico su cui preparare l'esame (slide delle lezioni, eventuali dispense o altro) sarà pubblicato e reso disponibile sulla piattaforma e-learning.

Non esistono variazioni per studenti non frequentanti in merito a: programma, modalità d'esame, bibliografia, etc...
In assenza di emergenza Covid, l'esame consiste in una prova scritta con esercizi e quesiti teorici. La prova ha una durata di circa 1 ora e 30 minuti. Il docente può richiedere che la prova scritta sia integrata con una prova orale. Questa prevede che lo studente risponda a domande (teoria ed esercizi) sull'intero programma del corso. La richiesta di sostenere la prova orale è comunicata allo studente al momento della pubblicazione dei risultati della prova scritta.
In presenza di emergenza Covid, l'esame si svolgerà in forma orale a distanza, generalmente sulla piattaforma Teams. A discrezione del docente, per accedere alla prova orale potrà essere richiesto il superamento di un test da svolgere tramite piattaforma informatica.
The exam consists of a written test with exercises and theoretical questions. The test takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The teacher can request that the written test be integrated with an oral exam. This requires the student to answer questions (theory and exercises) on the entire course program. The request to take the oral exam is communicated to the student at the time of publication of the results of the written test.

Sulla suddetta pagina e-learning saranno anche pubblicate (ed inviate per e-mail agli iscritti) le comunicazioni del docente, incluse quelle relative a eventuali variazioni degli orari di lezione o di ricevimento.
Si raccomanda agli studenti di partecipare ai ricevimenti che rappresentano uno strumento molto importante per ottenere i chiarimenti di cui lo studente può avere bisogno.
Per comunicare con il docente al di fuori dei ricevimenti, lezioni o esami, si prega di fare uso dell'e-mail e non della chat di Teams.
Per altro, anche l'uso delle richieste via e-mail dovrebbe essere ridotto al minimo in quanto la modalità preferita dovrebbe essere quella di rivolgere tali richieste a voce durante i ricevimenti.
