Conoscenze

Il corso fornisce agli studenti approfondite conoscenze dell'acustica ambientale, architettonica e edilizia, l'impiego di strumenti di misura e metodi numerici per la simulazione della propagazione del suono, l'analisi dei dati e l'uso dei modelli matematici di simulazione e sui loro limiti di applicazione, sulle tecniche avanzate di misure.

 

Knowledge

The course provide students with a deep understanding of environmental and architectural acoustics, instruments, measurements, numerical models for noise propagation simulation, techniques for measurement, modeling and processing the results.

 

Assessment criteria of knowledge

The student must demonstrate the ability to put into practice and to execute, with critical awareness, the activities illustrated or carried out under the guidance of the teacher during the course. During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.

Programma (contenuti dell'insegnamento)

Strumentazione e tecniche di misura

Approfondimenti sulla strumentazione per misura e caratterizzazione di livelli sonori: Fonometro e analizzatore di spettro. Specifiche tecniche e requisiti, classi di precisione, tolleranza, direttività, range dinamico, sensibilità. Misuratori di intensità sonora, Registrazione e riproduzione digitale.

Approfondimenti su metodologie di misura del fenomeno acustico: Elaborazione e analisi di segnali acustici: analisi temporale, in frequenza in banda costante e a percentuale costante e statistica di segnali acustici casuali e non. Analisi spettrale con filtri digitali e con metodo FFT. Media RMS. Calibrazione e verifica periodica.

Tecniche di misura e rilevamento dell’inquinamento acustico ambientale: Misure in ambiente esterno ed interno. Criteri tecnici per la verifica dei limiti normativi di acustica ambientale. Riconoscimento di componenti tonali e impulsive.

Metodi per la stima dell'incertezza di misura: Le norme nazionali ed internazionali per l’espressione dell’incertezza di misura. Identificazione delle cause di errore e metodi per la stima dei vari contributi di incertezza. Incertezza strumentale e operativa. Influenza dell’operatore e cause di errori sistematici. Metodi per la riduzione dell’incertezza.

 

Esercitazioni su:

- Uso dei fonometri e dei software di acquisizione

Utilizzo di software di acquisizione ed elaborazione dati di misura. Valutazione del rumore prodotto da sorgenti specifiche, impianti industriali, e infrastrutture di trasporto.

Esercitazioni su metodi di elaborazione e di analisi di segnali acustici: analisi temporale, in frequenza e statistica di segnali acustici reali.

Tecniche di misura e rilevamento dell’inquinamento acustico ambientale. Esercitazioni su verifica di compatibilità con i limiti di legge e riconoscimento di componenti tonali e impulsive su casi reali.

 

Acustica edilizia

Approfondimenti sul tempo di riverberazione. Descrittori dell’intelligibilità del parlato. Acustica dei teatri e di sale per l'ascolto della musica o auditorium. Introduzione all’acustica architettonica. Lo stato attuale della ricerca.

Indici acustici ed edilizia scolastica e convenzionata, modellizzazione e studio di casi reali.

 

I requisiti acustici passivi degli edifici

DPCM 5/12/97. Isolamento tra unità immobiliari. Isolamento da rumori esterni, da rumori di calpestio e da rumori di impianti a funzionamento continuo e discontinuo. Indici acustici ed edilizia scolastica e convenzionata.

 

Esercitazioni su:

- Uso dei fonometri e dei software per la progettazione dei requisiti acustici passivi degli edifici

Criteri e metodi per la misura del tempo di riverbero. Misura dei descrittori di acustica edilizia del DM 5-12-1997. Verifica strumentale della presenza di onde stazionarie.

Utilizzo di software per la progettazione dei requisiti acustici degli edifici.

 

- Uso dei software per la propagazione sonora

Utilizzo dei software per la propagazione sonora in ambiente esterno. Utilizzo di programmi GIS. Applicazione dei modelli ad interim e del modello CNOSSOS a ferrovie, strade e sorgenti industriali.

 

 

Syllabus

Introduction: main physical quantities – pressure, power and intensity – speed of sound – acoustical impedance – plane, spherical and cylindrical waves – Interface acoustical phenomena: absorption, reflection, transmission, diffusion – noise-absorbent and noise-insulating materials and systems – Air absorption. General characteristics of acoustic phenomena and of acoustic annoyance; evaluation parameters

Outdoor propagation: sound propagation – geometric divergence – causes of sound attenuation: the atmosphere - effect of temperature and wind gradient – ground – vegetation – obstacles – acoustic barriers: theory and sizing methods, study of actual cases and realisation problems.

Indoor acoustics: diffused and reverberant sound field. Stationary waves – reverberation – Sabine’s Formula – reverberation time - speech intelligibility parameterstheatre acoustics. Insulation and soundproofing of machinery and indoor environments. Examples of acoustic recovery of indoor environments.

Sound level – dB scale – sound level metrics – sound spectrum – psychophysics acoustics: human auditory system – properties of auditory sensations and their evaluation – annoyance and damage from noise exposure – audiogram – spectral and time domain weighting curves – equal loudness contour.

Measurement of sound levels: sound level meter, spectrum analyser. Block diagram of a sound level meter.

National normative regarding acoustics: Legge 447 and its implementing decrees.

National and international technical normative, reference standards (ISO, UNI, EN norms). Regional normative.

Acoustic zones: procedures, methods, analysis and possible problems. Evaluation of acoustic pollution: parameters. Evaluation of acoustic impact. Recovery plans: procedures in order to perform the right actions – evaluation of priorities and benefits. DPCM 14.11.97. EU directive 49/2002 and its implementation in Italy according to the decree 194/2005. Legislative decree 42/2017 and legislative harmonisation. Strategic map and action plans and their relationship with the noise climate and recovery plans.

DPCM 5-12-97. Insulation between different building units. Insulation from external noise. Ceiling insulation. Insulation from noise produced by continuous and discontinuous operation plants. Acoustic indices ad school acoustics.

Noise and vibrations within working environments. Legislative decree 81/08: case study – evaluation of individual exposure -noise measurements at the source; exposure reduction methods. Overview on active and passive noise control – individual protection methods.

Mechanical vibrations: basic knowledge on vibration physics – resonances – transmissibility – effects and control of machinery vibrations on buildings and people – vibration measurements – laws and technical normatives. Vibration control within working environments.

Elaboration of acoustic signals. Time and space domain and frequency domain characteristics. Parameters and measurements procedures. Frequency analysis in constant bandwidth and constant percentage bandwidth. FFT analysis. Time and statistical analysis of both random and deterministic acoustic signals. RMS value. Measurement techniques of environmental noise pollution. Tonal noise and impulsive noise recognition.

Evaluation of uncertainties and its causes. Instrumental and operative uncertainty: influence of the operator and reduction of systematic errors. Techniques of error reduction.

Criteria and methods for the measurement of reverberation time. Measurement of the parameters regarding indoor acoustics. Stationary waves.

Noise data acquisition and processing software. Evaluation of noise produced by single sources, industrial plants and transport infrastructures.

Software evaluation and determination of the acoustical requirements of buildings.

Correct usage of simulation software for the simulation of outdoor sound propagation. Input model data used by the software. GIS software. Application of ad-interim models and CNOSSOS model.

Case studies on linear sources (railways and roads) and industrial sources.
