Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The students who complete the course successfully will be able to grasp the interconnections between knowledge and communication media, from a perspective both philosophical and technological. They will learn to understand and to use digital humanities tools to study and to analyze classical philosophical texts and will master LaTeX, HTML, XHTML and HTML5, to become able to communicate on the net without depending on proprietary services and systems.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the students should be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the course material and to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. Moreover, they are required to offer a final practical demonstration by building a hypertext in XHTML or HTML5, with an external CSS, on a research topic of their choice.

Syllabus
The course is divided into two sections. The first section is theoretical: it deals with the hypertextual discussion of one of the many Plato's dialogs on philosophy as communication, selected yearly from the Perseus Project. The second section is practical: it provides a hands-on approach on hypertexts, from HTML 4 and 5 to LaTeX (as a term of comparison) and XML.
Bibliography
Recommended readings include one of Plato's dialogs, selected yearly from the Perseus Project; further bibliography will be indicated during the lectures and the laboratory work.
