Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate an adequate knowledge of political culture for what concerns the relationship between capital and labour in a modern and contemporary age. She/he will be able of orienting her/himself critically in the debate that gives or denies to the labour the function of ultimate realization of the human vocation, in the present or futur ways of organization, and will be able to ditinguish between different logics and meanings that concur to define the concept of industrial democracy
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the ora exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression

Syllabus
The course begins with the concept of labour in Luther and Calvin, in the wake of the Weberian thesis about the role of religion in the genesis of capitalism; examines the function of labour in the utopian literature of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and its reshaping within the liberal culture (from Locke to Smith). Finally, it proposes a reading of the most important texts of democratic ans socialist theories of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries
