Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will have a good knowledge of the theories of social change and their most significant concepts. He/she will be able to interpret one of the most important phenomena in modern societies and critically analyze some specific aspects. He/she will be aware of the consequences of the dynamics of social change on the lives of individuals and social groups
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. for students attending lectures only: with the oral presentation, to be made to the teacher and the other students, the student must demonstrate the ability to approach a circumscribed research problem, and organise an effective exposition of the results.

Syllabus
The course addresses a central issue of social analysis, the process of social change, which knowledge is a necessary prerequisite for the study of many relevant phenomena taking place in contemporary society. The course will propose an analysis of the theories of social change (mainly in the light of the key concept of modernity) and related questions. Particular attention will be paid to specific features of social change (e.g. cultural change) as well as the consequences of its dynamics on the lives of individuals and social groups.
