Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be aware of the criteria and italian standards for geometric road design and will have the ability to design the geometry of a simple collector road at a preliminary level and with an enough level of autonomy and responsability; he will be able to demonstrate a preliminary knowledge of road materials and principal techniques used for road construction as well as the principal types of tests carried out for quality control of road constructions.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
- The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. - During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. - The student must demonstrate the ability to put into practice and to execute, with critical awareness, the activities illustrated or carried out under the guidance of the teacher during the course

Syllabus
Road vehicle characteristics, road user perception and behavior, sight distances, road alignment, longitudinal profile, cross section types and composition, road alignment consistency, road intersections (at grade, roundabouts, at level). Soil and soils, classification of soils, soils compaction and bearing capacity, mineral aggregate properties; bitumen composition and classification, bitumen rheology, asphalt concrete mixture composition, mix design, asphalt concrete mixture properties; road pavement classification, AASHTO pavement design guide.
