Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The students who complete the course successfully will be able to peruse and to analyze ancient and modern philosophical writings, by means of a direct sources analysis enhanced by hypertextual tools. Furthermore, a comparison between ancient and modern political thought will make them aware of the manifold connections between political phenomena and philosophical ideas and traditions and will teach them to appraise the logical and not-so-logical patterns of ancient and modern political speeches.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam students must be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the course material and to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.

Syllabus
The course proposes a comparison between ancient and modern political philosophy.
Its first section deals with the hypertextual analysis of a dialog of Plato, whose source is selected from the Perseus Project. Its second section is devoted to Kant's political writings, which will be perused both on the Akademie Ausgabe as rendered in "Das Bonner Kant-Korpus" (http://korpora.org/Kant) and on a hypertextual annotated translation (http://btfp.sp.unipi.it/dida/kant_7/)
