Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to understand the basic processes and mechanisms which make political communication work; will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of how to connect them with the political systems in democratic contexts; will be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of how to make empricial research on the topics related with political communication;will be aware of the various methodologies that can be applied for different types of research.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
If oral:
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.
If essay (only for those who have attended the course):
The student will be assessed for his/her ability to connect theoretical relevant questions with empirical research with appropriate methodology

Syllabus
The course is dedicated to the various forms that political communication take in democratic contexts. Attention will be paid on the functions of political communication in different thoeries of democracies, and on the innovations introduced by the new media. The course is analytically composed of two parts. In the first part the student learns the most important theories of political communication and concepts related to them. In the second part, the student learns how research has been conducted in various topics, which methodology has been used and how to make research on her own.
