Conoscenze

Lo studente dovrà essere in grado di: comprendere e tradurre i testi; avere competenze culturali, tematiche e letterarie; essere capace di confrontare e collegare aspetti e tematiche dei testi antichi con testi moderni; approfondire argomenti tramite bibliografia.

Knowledge

The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to reflect on the main theoretical problems and issues of teaching Latin today, the ability to know how to present Latin texts in a high school class, and to illustrate the central themes of Latin grammar, combining the teaching of Latin language with Latin literature. He/she will also know the basic outlines of the history of the teaching of Latin in the Italian school system.

Le conoscenze saranno verificate nel corso delle lezioni attraverso la lettura diretta dei testi in esame.

 

Assessment criteria of knowledge

The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. The student's ability to explain correctly the main topics presented during the course will be assessed.

Further information:
The student must show that he/she can apply their knowledge of prosody and will have to read the text according to the metric, will have to illustrate the grammatical aspects of the poetic passages on which the examination will be based; he/she will have to know verbal paradigms, declensions, conjugations and syntax. He/she must be able to report on philological problems dealt with and discussed during the lectures.

Capacità

Lo studente sarà in grado di: analizzare e interpretare i testi; confrontare i testi con altri testi; orientarsi su alcuni aspetti della società e della cultura di Roma antica, con particolare attenzione alle tematiche dei legami familiari, alle questioni di diritto, alla politica, ecc.

Le capacità saranno verificate nel corso delle lezioni attraverso la lettura diretta dei testi in esame.

Lo studente sarà in grado di acquisire le competenze e gli strumenti necessari all'insegnamento del latino.

Prerequisiti (conoscenze iniziali)

Prerequisiti: il corso necessita di alcune conoscenze di base: 

1. inquadramento del periodo storico;

2. profilo letterario della letteratura dell'età arcaica; il teatro e i generi teatrali; i precedenti: la commedia greca; profilo di Plauto; le commedie di Plauto.

Programma (contenuti dell'insegnamento)

Il corso si propone la conoscenza complessiva del teatro plautino e la lettura integrale di quattro commedie: 

1. Persa: la commedia verrà tradotta e commentata in classe;

2. Miles gloriosus: prova seminariale: gli studenti dovranno presentare in classe la traduzione e il commento di 30-40 versi della commedia; il seminario, che avrà la durata di 30', dovrà essere presentato anche in forma scritta; 

3. prevede la preparazione e la lettura integrale di altre due commedie: 3. Aulularia; 4. Menaechmi. Per ciascuna delle due commedie gli studenti dovranno leggere n. 6 saggi dalla bibliografia di riferimento.

Syllabus

The course is based on Virgil's Aeneid IV. Aspects of prosody, metrics, language, style and poetic models will be analyzed. Specific attention will be paid to the characteristic features of the epic genre. The figure of Dido will be illustrated also in its components that derive from the tragic genre. Starting from the analysis of the text, the student will be gradually introduced to the main methodological issues of the teaching of Latin in high school.
