Lo studente alla fine del corso dovrà dimostrare di conoscere le fondamentali problematiche di storia militare e politica relative alla storia della prima età moderna.
At the end of the course the student must be able to demonstrate that he/she is well acquainted with the fundamental problems of the military and political history of the early modern period.
Discussioni e incontri in forma seminariale durante lo svolgimento del corso ed esame finale.
The student's knowledge will be assessed through discussions and meetings in seminar form held as part of the course itself, as well as during the final exam.
Lo studente dovrà dimostrare la capacità di analizzare e comprendere le diverse posizioni storiografiche e i filoni di indagine riguardanti la materia del corso e di illustrarli criticamente.
The student will need to demonstrate the ability to analyze and undertand the various historigraphic prospectives and lines of research as they relate to the subject matter of the course; and be able to illustrate them critically.
La verifica delle capacità avverrà durante le discussioni seminariali e in sede di esame finale.
Assessment of the abilities will be carried out during the seminars and during the final exam.
E' necessaria una partecipazione attiva dello studente e la disponibilità ad effettuare letture da presentare e discutere con i colleghi e con il docente.
The student must participate actively and be willing to read the works agreed upon in order to present them and discuss them with the other students and with the professor.

A good general knowledge of European History in the Sixteenth and Seventtenth Centuries.

Reading and analysis of historiographic works and text, published and manuscript documents, and discussion during the seminars held as part of the course.
Il corso prevede, dopo alcune lezioni di inquadramento generale, degli approfondimenti a carattere seminariale su temi e problemi di storia militare europea, terrestre e navale, dei secoli XVI e XVII.
The course foresees, after a certain number of general lectures, in depth studies in seminar form on the themes and problems of European military history, on land and on the sea, in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth centuries.

Gli studenti non frequentanti dovranno concordare con il docente i testi oggetto della prova di esame per un carico di lavoro complessivo intorno alle 1200 pagine di saggi e monografie tra quelle elencate nella bibliografia
Students who do not attend classes are required to agree with the professor on which volumes and texts they will be responsible for at the final exam; the total workload will be of about 1200 pages of volumes and monographs among those indicated in the bibliography.
Esame finale avverrà in forma orale su testi da concordare con il docente, per un carico di lavoro complessivo intorno alle 600 pagine di saggi e monografie tra quelle elencate nella bibliografia
The final exam will be in oral form and will address the texts agreed upon with the professor, for a total workload of about 600 pages of volumes and monographs included among those listed in the bibliography.
