Programma (contenuti dell'insegnamento)

Syllabus

International finance is the undisputed engine of the globalization processes which affected the world economy since the eighties of the twentieth century. Which causes have favored the financialization of the world economies? And what are the real connections between "finance" and "market economy"? The course is organized in two parts. The first one will focus on the main transformations that took place in the international monetary system during the twentieth century, with particular attention to the dynamics of the European monetary integration from the post-war period to the creation of the European Monetary Union (1945-1992). At the same time equal attention will be paid to the international financial crises between 1950 and 2010. In the second part the students will focus on the dynamics which, after the II World War, led to the creation of a new international monetary system: the “Bretton Woods Agreements” of 1944 will be analyzed starting from the theories and the proposals of John Maynard Keynes.
