The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of physical factors of importance to the biota. He or she will be able to look critically at physical and hydrological processes of the habitats and relative functions and at the interation by the organisms that inhabit aquatic ecosistems, their adaptation, distribution and diversity. They will have demonstrated the ability to define a basic principles of nutrient cycling, food sources and energy flow, role of human activities in freshwater ecosistems and their effects, monitoring methods of bioindication and Water Framework Directive.
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. The student's ability to explain correctly the main topics presented during the course at the board will be assessed.

The aim of “Ecology of fresh waters” course is studying the inter-relationships between physical and biological factors in streams, rivers, lakes and estuaries. The importance of physical processes of the habitats, particulary the areas of hydrology and geomorphology, and the relative functions attract particulary attention. Exploring the interation we know the organisms that inhabit aquatic ecosistems, their adaptation, their distribution and diversity. The study of freshwater ecosistems, finally, cannot be carried out by excluding the role of human activities.
