All the books are available in the library of the Department of English Studies in via Santa Maria 67
The students who will not attend the lessons are asked to read the guidelines on the moodle page of the course carefully.
The students who do not attend the lessons are asked to study for the exam following the guidelines published on the moodle page of the course and to read the books recommended.
The teacher is available for explanations during her tutorial hours. We recommend the students to ask for clarification before the exam.
L’ESAME PREVEDE PROVE SCRITTE E ORALI.
B) TEST 2: FONETICA/FONOLOGIA dell'Inglese
C) TEST 3: MORFOLOGIA dell'Inglese
The final exam includes:
written tests and oral examination (see the page of the course on moodle).
A) TEST 1: GRAMMAR
Multiple choice questions on grammar , listening and reading comprehension multiple choice questions which aim at the assessment of the required competence (B1 level).
B) TEST 2: PHONETICS/PHONOLOGY
Multiple choice questions on the topics dealt with during the lessons, which aim at the assessment of the required basic competence on phonetics and phonology.
C) TEST 3: MORPHOLOGY
Multiple choice questions on the topics dealt with during the lessons, which aim at the assessment of the required basic competence on morphology.
NOTE: It is compulsory to have passed the written exams before the oral exam. The written tests can be held either in the same session or in different ones.
D: ORAL EXAM
The oral exam is aimed at the assessment of the spoken competence of the students (B1 Level).
The students are asked to write a CV in English, where they will report on their lives, personal and job past experience (for example stages or temporary jobs).
The CV is meant to help the students, who canthus prepare the necessary vocabulary and syntactic structures to talk about planned topics.
All the students can take part in a project "Ithaca project". The project offers the chance to talk via skype to American students at Cornell, Ithaca. The conversations (at least two from October to December) should be video-recorded and can replace the oral exam.
Due to a limited number of American partner-students, those who want to take part in the project should manifest their interest as soon as the first week of the course to Prof. Noccetti. Once the partnership has started, it is not possible to withdraw from the project.
Assessment grid
IPA/Phonetics/Phonology ___/30
Morphology ___/30
Speaking/Interaction ___/30
The final score is given by the arithmetic mean of the three tests above. The grammar test is only meant to assess the B1 level and is excluded from the mean. However, if the score of the grammar test is higher than the one demanded and the resulting level is B1+ or B2, 1 or 2 point will be added to the final score.
