Il corso è basato sull'acquisizione della lingua inglese a livello B1 del Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) e si propone di sviluppare nello studente le varie abilità di lettura, comprensione, traduzione e produzione (orale e scritta). Obiettivo principale del corso è quello di fornire allo studente gli strumenti necessari per una corretta trattazione e interpretazione di testi specialistici, acquisendone il lessico di base e le funzioni comunicative. Durante il corso saranno presi in esame video e testi scritti di ambito politico e socio-economico. Questi saranno analizzati ai vari livelli linguistici (morfologico, grammaticale, sintattico, semantico, lessicale, testuale) e a livello multimodale con esercitazioni pratiche svolte in aula.
Il corso è suddiviso in due moduli: il I Modulo (di 42 ore, 6 CFU) è rivolto sia agli studenti del CdS in Scienze Politiche che a quelli del CdS in Scienze del Servizio Sociale, mentre il II Modulo (di 21 ore, 3 CFU) è rivolto ai soli studenti del CdS in Scienze Politiche.
IMPORTANTE: Il corso ufficiale sarà affiancato dal Lettorato, che si svolgerà nel I e nel II semestre in due corsi papralleli a semestre in base al livello di conoscenza della lingua inglese degli studenti, e che consisterà in esercitazioni pratiche svolte da due Collaboratori e Esperti Linguistici (CEL) che mirano principalmente ad esercitare la lingua inglese generale scritta e parlata: nel I semestre il Lettorato riguarderà gli aspetti grammaticali (40h a corso), mentre nel II semestre lo Speaking (40h a corso).
By the end of the course, the students must have attained a proficiency level in English equal to the B1 Level of the CEFR. They will be able to use the terminology and communicative tools of specialised language, i.e. the language of politics, but they will also be able to generally follow the main points of extended discussion regarding political issues; to provide speech which is clearly articulated in standard English; and to express the main points they want to make comprehensibly. Lastly, they will be able to read, understand, analyse and discuss written texts of specialised areas taken from newspapers focusing on international political news, as well as short video clips, which will be watched and analysed in class.
The course is organized as follows: Module 1 (42 hours, 6 ECTS) and Module 2 (21 hours, 3 ECTS). Module 2 is addressed only to the students attending the Political Science programme.
NB: The course is made up of two parts: the thematic course given by the Lecturer (Dr. Bonsignori) and Lettorato (language practice) taught by English speaking instructors (McSorley and Phillips). Both the Course and the Lettorato aim at bringing the participants to the B1 (intermediate) level of proficiency in English. To this end, students are expected to follow both as part of the course work. The thematic course will take place in the second term, while the Lettorato will take place both in the first and second term.
Le conoscenze della lingua inglese specialistica previste dal corso ufficiale saranno testate sia con prova scritta sia con prova orale. La verifica delle conoscenze linguistiche in ambito generale acquisite durante il lettorato saranno verificate in sede di colloquio orale.
Students will be tested to verify that they have attained the level B1 of the CEFR in English and that they are able to recognize and discuss the main features of political discourse in English.

Il prerequisito di base è la conoscenza della Lingua Inglese (inglese generale) a livello A2 (Pre-Intermediate). Tale conoscenza permetterà allo studente di affrontare durante il corso l'analisi del testo scritto di ambito specialistico e l'interazione orale di tipo specializzato.
Knowledge of general English at A2 level.
Le lezioni saranno svolte in lingua inglese. Si consiglia caldamente la frequenza sia del corso ufficiale che del Lettorato.

L'esame consiste in una prova scritta e una prova orale (da sostenere nello stesso appello esame). Si accede all'esame orale solo dopo aver superato quello scritto.
L'esame scritto è volto a verificare le conoscenze acquisite durante il corso ufficiale, mentre l'esame orale si compone di due parti: 1) la prima parte consiste in una verifica delle competenze linguistiche sull'inglese generale da sostenersi con il Lettore madrelingua; 2) la seconda parte, da sostenersi con la docente, consiste nella lettura e comprensione/traduzione/discussione di un testo di carattere politico analizzato durante il corso ufficiale e nella discussione di argomenti attinenti all'area socio-politica ed eventuale accertamento di competenze grammaticali e sintattiche
- In the written exam, the student must demonstrate his/her ability to understand a specialised text and its terminology. He/she must also demonstrate his/her knowledge of the grammatical structures and specialised vocabulary acquired during the course.
- In the oral exam, the student will be assessed on his/her ability to read, analyse and translate into Italian one of the specialised texts studied during the course. Furthermore, the student must demonstrate the ability to master the communicative skills developed during the course and the Lettorato and to speak fluently in professional and everyday contexts.

Il possesso di certificazioni internazionali quali PET (B1), FCE (B2), TOEFL (score 57-86 B1, score 89-109 B2), IELTS (score 4-4.5 B1 and score 5.5.-6.5 B2) o superiori permetterà agli studenti di essere esonerati dal sostenere l'esame scritto.
Per il riconoscimento delle certificazioni linguistiche (es. PET, FCE, CAE, CPE, TOEFL, IELTS), consultare la docente. Le certificazioni del CLI e i certificati Trinity non saranno riconosciuti ai fini dell'esame.
