Knowledge

The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to recognize how the modern Italian linguistic situation arised from Latin and under which linguistic, geographic and historical conditions it developed. More generally, the student will be aware of the many and various steps a linguistic situation has to undergo to arrive at its final form.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents by showing critical analysis of linguistic data and using the appropriate terminology.

una conoscenza di base della fonetica e della fonologia

una conoscenza sia pure a grandi linee della storia e della geografia dell'Italia e del Mediterraneo

 - lezioni frontali "vecchia maniera";

 - il docente va contattato preferibilmente di persona nell'orario (indicato) di ricevimento

 - non sono previste prove intermedie né è previsto l'uso di lingue diverse dall'italiano

Programma (contenuti dell'insegnamento)

Introduzione (una introduzione di base) alle tematiche e alle problematiche degli studi dialettologici, con specifico riguardo alla situazione italiana.    

Syllabus

What's Language and what's (in romance and above all in italian domain) Dialect? Criteria for a (not easy) distinction. The dialects of Italy: their origin from Latin and the main features (vowel developments and consonant developments from Latin to modern Romance varieties) which mark the main dialectal groups (Northern Italy, Tuscany, Middle Italy and Southern Italy dialects; what's Tuscan and what's Italian?). Short survey of the historical interactions between Italian Romance varieties and other Romance (e.g., medieval and modern French) or non-romance (i.e. medieval and modern Greek) varieties.

Modalità d'esame

l'esame è orale ed è condotto dal titolare dell'insegnamento: essendo un esame orale, si può prevedere che il docente porrà più domande relative agli argomenti trattati nel corso e/o trattati nei testi sopra indicati.

attenzione: le domande NON sono del tipo SI-NO ma richiedono risposte articolate ed esaurienti.

Note

le lezioni si svolgeranno nel I semestre

ricevimento-studenti: a causa del sovrapporsi della lezione di Glottologia, per tutta la durata del corso (dunque fino a dicembre 2019) il ricevimento del giovedì pomeriggio (dalle 14.30 alle 15.30) è anticipato al mercoledì pomeriggio, stesso orario.   invece, il ricevimento del giovedì mattina (9.30-12.00) prosegue regolarmente.

da gennaio 2020 il ricevimento torna a essere il giovedì dalle 9.30 alle 12 e dalle 14.30 alle 15.30.
