Al termine del corso lo studente avrà acquisito un quadro generale della letteratura britannica e irlandese contemporanee e una conoscenza specifica delle problematiche relative al nesso fra Irishness, Englishness e bellezza, ai concetti di bello e brutto, poetica normativa, valutativa e descrittiva, giudizio di valore e canonizzazione, opera monumento ed opera documento, tramite l'analisi di testi letterari narrativi, poetici, teatrali e teorici prodotti nella contemporaneità.
The student who completes this course will have a general knowledge of contemporary Irish and British literature and a specific knowledge of the notions of beauty and ugliness, normative and descriptive poetics, value judgment and canonization, monuments nd documentss as they emerge in contemporary discourse: fiction, poetry, plays, literary and aesthetics.
Durante il corso sono previsti alcuni interventi seminariali degli studenti, che contribuiranno alla verifica delle loro conoscenze.
È prevista una verifica finale delle conoscenze tramite un colloquio che accerterà le capacità dello studente di riferire, argomentare, confrontare.
Students will participate in seminars, which will contribute to the assessment of their skills and competences.
The final oral exam will assess the student's argumentative skills and ability in discussing the critical issues analysed during the course and the seminars.
Nel corso dei seminari, lo studente, opportunamente guidato nella scelta delle fonti, sarà in grado di esporre e comparare contenuti critici relativi ai testi in programma.
Durante la verifica finale, lo studente sarà in grado di stabilire connessioni fra i testi studiati e le problematiche di sfondo proposte durante il corso, analizzare le singole opere, confrontarle, riferire i punti di vista interpretativi dedotti dal materiale proposto e integrarli con contributi personali.
During the seminars, the student will discuss, compare and analyse the critical issues that emerge from literary, critical and theoretical texts. During the final exam, the student will demonstrate his/her familiarity with contemporary critical, theoretical and literary texts and will integrate his/her readings with personal contributions.
La verifica finale consisterà in un colloquio in italiano o, a scelta dello studente, in inglese.
An oral examination, either in Italian or in English according to the student's choice, will be the final assessment tool. Students will demonstrate their familiarity with the literary and cultural notions addressed during the course and will be able to apply previous feedback during the final exam.
Lo studente affinerà le proprie capacità espositive nell'ambito delle attività seminariali e/o durante la verifica finale; svilupperà capacità di raffronto e valutazione di prospettive ermeneutiche concorrenti; opererà collegamenti fra opere di natura letteraria e teorica, contestualizzando le interpretazioni testuali entro il quadro culturale di riferimento.
The student will demonstrate his/her argumentative and critical skills during the seminars and the final exam; he/she will be able to compare and discuss different interpretive perspectives; he/she will be able to connect literary, cultural and theoretical issues with the cultural background.
L'efficacia della partecipazione seminariale sarà valutata in base a precisione dei riferimenti e cogenza dell'articolazione argomentativa. Analoghi criteri saranno assunti per la verifica finale.
The main assessment criteria will be the clarity, exactness and effectiveness of argumentation.
Non sono previsti prerequisti specifici, se non le conoscenze di base riguardo alla cultura letteraria inglese acquisite nell'ambito della laurea triennale.

TITOLO DEL CORSO: Il bello e il brutto nella letteratura britannica e irlandese contemporanee
Il corso verte sulla letteratura in quanto indagine sui concetti di bello e brutto, poetica normativa, valutativa e descrittiva, giudizio di valore e canonizzazione, opera monumento ed opera documento nelle forme elaborate dalla letteratura e dalla cultura inglese dal Modernismo alla contemporaneità, con particolare relazione alle nozioni di Irishness e Englishness.

Le lezioni si svolgeranno nel I semestre, a partire dal 23 settembre 2019. Si terranno tre volte alla settimana: LUNEDÌ (aula Boilleau 9) h.10.15; MARTEDÌ (Aula 4) Palazzo Ricci) h.16; GIOVEDÌ (Aula 6 Palazzo Ricci) h. 12. Alcune lezioni saranno tenute in lingua inglese.
Il ricevimento studenti si terrà il giovedì dalle 10 alle 11.30, Via Santa Maria 67, Palazzo Scala, I piano.
Some lessons will be in English. Teaching materials will be in English and Italian.
Classes, which will start on 25 Septemebr 2019, will be in Aula B9 Palazzo Boilleau (Mondays, 10.15-11.45), Aula 4 Palazzo Ricci (Tuesdays, 16.00-17.30) and Aula 9 Palazzo Boilleau 9 (Thursdays, 12.00-13.30).
