Lo studente che ha completato il corso potrà acquisire il necessario background sul rapporto struttura-proprietà chimiche dei principali gruppi funzionali organici, e di suggerire strategie per l'interconversione tra composti organici e la sintesi di molecole organiche semplici. Lui o lei acquisirà anche il background teorico e le competenze di base e sperimentale per effettuare la preparazione, la purificazione e l'identificazione dei principali gruppi funzionali in composti organici.

In tutti i casi di svolgimento, per sostenere l'esame è necessario aver frequentato il laboratorio sperimentale, e consegnato la relazione prevista. E' inoltre essenziale aver sostenuto gli esami di chimica generale I e di Introduzione alla Chimica Organica.
Online examination mode during health emergency for CoVid19
The exam consists of online multiple choice tests and an oral test.
The online test consists of 30 questions relating only to the theoretical part to be carried out in the maximum time of 60 minutes. The test is passed if the student gets at least 20/30 (each correct answer is worth 1), and allows only admission to the oral test without the grade obtained being considered for the oral itself. Each question has five possible answers, of which only one is correct. The test will be carried out using the Exam Manager platform made available by the publishing house Edises, which also publishes the textbook adopted. Each student will need to download the Exam manager app, available for Android or Apple, and use that app for testing on their smartphone or tablet. The software for each student mixes the order of the questions, and also the order of the answers for each question. The student accesses the test by inserting in the application a unique code decided by the teacher, after registration to the subject of the teacher himself on the application, following the instructions. Once you answer or not one question you move on to the next one, and you can't go back. At the end of the test the student immediately knows if he passed the test or not.
The oral test will last up to 45 minutes, it will be carried out using MS Teams. The candidate will be asked not only questions of theory and laboratory, but also open questions about synthesis and mechanisms, so as to introduce questions of their own also of the written test in the presence. For this test, the date and time will be agreed with the students, so as to take into account any other commitments from both them and the teachers.
The oral test is not passed if the candidate shows that he is unable to express himself clearly and to use the correct terminology. The oral test is also not passed when the candidate will repeatedly show the inability to relate parts of the program and notions that he must use jointly to correctly answer a question.
