Alla fine del corso gli studenti avranno una buona conoscenza della storia e della cultura dell'Armenia premoderna, nonché dei rapporti del mondo armeno con l'Italia.
The student who successfully completes the course will have a strong knowledge of the history and culture of pre-modern Armenia, and of the relationship of the Armenians with Italy.
Durante la prova orale lo studente deve dimostrare di conoscere i contenuti esposti durante il corso o desunti dalle letture indicate.
During the final oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.
Alla fine del corso gli studenti conosceranno la storia, la struttura sociale e la produzione artistica di un popolo orientale, anche nei suoi rapporti col mondo occidentale.
The student who successfully completes the course will know the history, the social structure and the artistic production of an Eastern people, considering also its relationship with the Western world.
Dato il presumibile non alto numero di iscritti al corso, la verifica delle capacità acquisite verrà fatta ad ogni lezione.
Given the probably reduced number of students, their skills will be tested during every lesson.
Affrontando una cultura "altra" ed un popolo spesso vissuto come minoranza all'interno di comunità più ampie, multietniche e multireligiose, lo studente potrà confrontare le situazioni e le soluzioni del passato con quelle che vive nel suo e nostro presente.
Armenians often were a minority people within larger, multiethnic communities. In studying what happened to them and which kind of solutions they found for their problems, the student can compare the past with the reality which he/she is living in.
Il confronto di cui sopra potrà essere oggetto di riflessione di gruppo.
Such a comparision can be the object of discussion within the class.

Può essere utile integrare le conoscenze qui acquisite con lo studio della lingua armena antica, impartito nel corso di Filologia armena/Lingua e letteratura armena.
It could be good to add to the general knowledge of the Armenian history and society the knowledge of the Old Armenian language, availabe through the course of Filologia armena/Lingua e letteratura armena.
Il corso è organizzato in lezioni frontali, durante le quali, però, l'interazione fra docente e discenti è costante.

Il corso si propone di presentare un profilo di storia sociale e letteraria dell’Armenia dal IV al XVII secolo. Verranno esposti gli avvenimenti più importanti, ma particolare attenzione verrà rivolta alla struttura della società, considerata nel suo evolversi, ed alla produzione letteraria ed in generale artistica. Un capitolo a parte verrà dedicato alla produzione libraria, sia a livello di manoscritto che di libro a stampa. Infine, all’interno di questa esposizione, ci si soffermerà sulla presenza armena in Italia ed in particolare in Toscana. I testi originali armeni verranno sempre forniti in traduzione.
The course deals with the history of Armenia from the 4th to the 17th century. Together with the most relevant historical facts, also the development of the Armenian society will be discussed, as well as its artistic and literary production. Some lessons will be devoted to the book production, concerning both the manuscript and the printed book. Finally the Armenian colonies in Italy will be dealt with. Original Armenian texts will be presented in translation.

More references can be indicated during the lessons, during which the teaching material will also be provided which the students will then comment and discuss.
Gli studenti non frequentanti, che non siano in grado di procurarsi buoni appunti, sono invitati a concordare un programma alternativo col docente.
Non-attending students are invited to contact the professor, in order to obtain an alternative program for the exam.
L'esame è costituito da una prova orale sul contenuto delle lezioni e dei testi indicati come bibliografia.
At the end of the course an oral exam will take place, concerning the topics discussed during the lessons. Students should also know the content of the books quoted in the bibliography.
Le lezioni inizieranno il 24 febbraio 2021 e si terranno il mercoledì ed il giovedì dalle 14.15 alle 15.45.
