Knowledge The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of history of science, in particular, physics during two periods, i.e. the XVII century and the XX century. In the first case, the object of study is the work of Galileo Galilei, focused on the astronomical observations during the years 1610, 1611 e 1612 ('Sidereus Nuncius', Lettere Copernicane, various letters, sections of 'il Saggiatore'). The second period is the forth decade of Novecento, and the work is the of Enrico Fermi's discovery of radioactivity induced by means meutrond, new elements,'slow neutron effect', in via Panisperna, and the formidable consequences in the nucleus knowledge. Also the implications in the subsequent applications ti weapons are presented.
The student, also, will have the ability to move himself in the critical evaluation of Galileo contributions in demonstrate the Copernico's hypothesis, the developing of science through the work of Cartesio (Discours de la méthode), Newton and Leibniz, and the continuos contributions of mathematics to development of Science, untill the XX century.
Assessment criteria of knowledge The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.

Methods:
It is strongly recomended a good knowledge of basic physics acquired during the courses of the first and second years; also a good basic knowlwdge of mathematics is required.
A good knowledge of History and Phylosophy aquired in secondary school is sufficent.
XVII-XVIII.
It is strongly recomended a continous interest towards the development of scientific thinking, specifically referred to the Scientific Revolution, from XVII e XVIII centiries.
The course is carried out through the presentation of seminar lectures articulated
on PPT presentations that act as a support for the reading and discussion of the texts,
images and graphics. During the course, students were provided electronically with
about thirty in-depth documents, both original and historical articles, and comments
from historians of physics and science in general. The exam consists of an interview
(done remotely in compliance with the current rectorial provisions ...) which is reached
after the presentation of a short written paper (pdf) that the candidate must prepare
and present a few days before the oral exam; the paper focuses on a topic of History
of Physics, in the most general sense, chosen by the candidate. The oral exam begins
with the discussion of the paper and continues with some questions on the program
(duration: about one hour)
Delivery: face to face, or otherwise, if necessary, in remote sessions.
