Il corso Seminario di Storia medievale b (= Storia medievale 3) ha un carattere monografico e seminariale e mira a fornire conoscenze e competenze avanzate nell’ambito della storia medievale agli studenti del CdS in Storia che intendano laurearsi nel curriculum di Storia medievale. Esso è aperto anche a studenti di altri curricula e di altri corsi di studio, ma richiede la conoscenza già acquisita delle linee generali della disciplina. Lo scopo del corso è quello di fornire competenze avanzate sul tema prescelto di anno in anno. Gli studenti saranno perciò messi a confronto con le diverse interpretazioni storiografiche e con un campione significativo di fonti inerenti il tema scelto per il corso. Sarà richiesta agli studenti la capacità di interagire con il docente e tra loro, discutendo i materiali presentati a lezione.
The Medieval History Seminar course b (= Medieval History III) has a monographic and seminar character and aims to provide advanced knowledge and skills in medieval history to the students of the CdS in History who intend to graduate in the Medieval History curriculum. It is also open to students of other curricula and other study courses, but requires the knowledge already acquired of the general guidelines of the discipline. The aim of the course is to provide advanced knowledge on the topic chosen each year. Students will therefore be compared with the different historiographic interpretations and with a significant sample of sources related to the theme chosen for the course. Students will be asked to interact with the teacher and with each other, discussing the materials presented in class.

Gli studenti debbono conseguire la capacità di vagliare criticamente una bibliografia articolata, non solo in lingua italiana. Debbono mostrare la capacità comprendere e impiegare criticamente le fonti.

È indispensabile la conoscenza, almeno di base, della storia medievale, certificata attraverso un esame di primo livello (Storia medievale I o Istituzioni di storia medievale).
Una conoscenza, anche di base, del latino è assai opportuna (seppur non indispensabile). Sarebbe utile anche una certa dimestichezza con almeno una delle altre principali lingue moderne di comunicazione scientifica (inglese, francese, tedesco o spagnolo).
At least basic knowledge of medieval history, certified through a first level examination (Medieval History I or Medieval History Institutions) is essential.
A basic knowledge of Latin is also appropriate (albeit not essential). A certain familiarity with at least one of the other major modern languages of scientific communication (English, French, German or Spanish) would also be useful.

Il tema di quest'anno è: Guerra e società nell'alto e nel pieno medioevo.
Il corso si articolerà in tre momenti. Innanzitutto, si illustreranno gli aspetti principali dell'interazione tra attività militare e strutture sociali nel corso del medioevo. In seguito si illustreranno due esempi del fenomeno con riferimento prima all'alto e poi al pieno medioevo. Specifica attenzione sarà riservata anche ad alcune fonti esemplari di diversa tipologia utili allo studio del tema del corso. Le fonti saranno esaminate nella loro lingua originale (latino) e poi tradotte e commentate dal docente.

Students will be asked to interact with the teacher and with each other, discussing the materials presented in class.
This year's theme is: War and society in the early and high middle ages.
The course will be divided into three parts. First, the main aspects of the interaction between warfare and social structures during the Middle Ages will be illustrated. Then two examples of the phenomenon will be studied, with reference first to the Early and then to the High Middle Ages. Specific attention will also be given to some exemplary sources of different kind useful for the study of the course theme. The sources will be examined in their original language (Latin) and then translated and commented on by the teacher.

In base alle indicazioni dell'Ateneo, le lezioni si terranno in presenza; chi fosse impossibilitato a essere presente, per ragioni di capienza delle aule, o per altre ragioni potrà seguire da remoto le lezioni. Si prega chi fosse in questa condizione di prendere per tempo contatto con il docente.
Venerdì 1° ottobre alle ore 10.15 si terrà l'incontro di presentazione del corso. È importante che gli studenti interessati a seguire il corso partecipino all'incontro, per organizzare al meglio i lavori.
Le lezioni avranno inizio mercoledì 6 ottobre alla medesima ora.
Dal momento che l'organizzazione del corso quest'anno sarà particolarmente complessa, è fondamentale per il docente conoscere con un certo anticipo il numero di studenti che seguiranno il corso.
