STORIA E TEORIA SOCIOLOGICA
HISTORY AND SOCIOLOGICAL THEORY
The student will acquire knowledge in relation to one of the most significant authors in the history
of contemporary sociological thought, Pierre Bourdieu, joined at the field of social work. The aim of the course is to provide historical, methodological and applicative indications
capable of making the student understand the potential in applying the categories of Pierre Bourdieu's
thought (habitus, field, capital, symbolic domain) to the field of social service, with the aim of
renewing the dialogue between social theory and social work In this sense, the notions of State, Family, Deviance, read in the double theoretical (Bourdesian)
and applicative (categories of social service) key will be subject to empirical study.
GENERAL SOCIOLOGY
The course will examine in a monographic way Georg Simmel's sociology, in particular the so-called "little sociology" of 1917 (published in Italian as "Forme e giochi di società", Feltrinelli, Milano 1983). The main themes investigated will be those found in "little sociology": the field of sociology, the social level and the individual level, sociability and playful forms of association, the two forms of individualism. The attendance of the course is compulsory and the preparation of the exam is mainly based on the notes taken during the lessons. Those who can not attend (or can not attend continuously) can take the exam on the old program that includes the full study of the manual "Elements of Sociology" by A. Bagnasco, M. Barbagli, A. Cavalli, Il Mulino, Bologna 2013.
The knowledge will be tested through a continuous debate in classroom and the final proof.
For General Sociology will be tested in the final oral exam (attending students) or the final written exam (not attending students) for the sociology exam.

video, etc.)
The lessons will be structured so that students can participate actively. In addition to frontal lessons, discussion topics will be proposed coherently with the objectives of the course. A course page will be activated on the e-learning platform of the department in order to make more easy sharing didactic material (power point presentations, documents video, etc.)

Il corso sarà articolato in due momenti:
1. genesi, significato e sviluppo della sociologia di Bourdieu, attraverso pagine delle sue opere;

key will be subject to empirical study. The course will be divided into two parts: 1. Genesis, meaning and development of Bourdieu's sociology, through pages of his works; 2. Application of Bourdieu's tools to some key categories of the social service profession,
such as those of the State, Family, Deviance
GENERAL SOCIOLOGY
Simmel's sociology has often been labeled and understood in textbooks of the discipline as "formal sociology." In reality, this definition, in addition to being based on a philosophically poor conception of the concept of form, does not include the contribution that Simmel's thought as a whole can make to the understanding of modern society. As long as this perspective has dominated, it has been impossible to recognize Simmel's real sociological contribution. His theory of culture and his complex concept of individuality, which constitute an essential part of his conception of sociology, could not be reconstructed and understood under the label of "formal sociology." Simmel is the only "founding father" of modern sociology in which the problem of individuality in the context of an increasingly complex society lies at the center of sociological interest.
Simmel's social thought must therefore be understood in a broader perspective than the mere attempt to found "sociology" as a specific academic discipline. Only by addressing his thought without regard to forms of disciplinary compartmentalization between philosophy, aesthetics, sociology, etc.. - Only by dealing with his thought without regard to forms of disciplinary compartmentalization between philosophy, aesthetics, sociology, etc. - which did not exist in his time, or were largely disregarded - is it possible to understand Simmel's significance as a founding father of sociology and as an original interpreter of the relationship between the individual and society.
In this course we will try to systematically reconstruct some of the fundamental junctures of Simmel's social thought, in particular by comparing the so-called "great sociology" of 1908 and the "little sociology" of 1917, which (as the original title of the work states) focuses on the individual-society relationship as the fundamental problem of sociology.
