Il corso, seguendo un approccio evolutivo e critico, si propone di fornire contenuti, chiavi di lettura e strumenti per comprendere la complessità dello spazio economico e sociale del mondo contemporaneo e i processi di integrazione e differenziazione che lo caratterizzano.
The course, following an evolutionary and critical approach, aims to provide contents, keys and tools to understand the complexity of the economic and social space as well as the integration and differentiation processes that characterize it.
Verrà valutata la capacità di apprendimento dei principali contenuti del corso con particolare riguardo alla lettura della dimensione spaziale dei processii socio-economici che verranno illustrati durante le lezioni, sia attraverso l'interazione con la docente in aula che durante la prova di esame finale. Si prevede di lasciare spazio alla partecipazione attiva degli studenti durante le lezioni, anche tramite l'organizzazione di seminari di approfondimento di alcune tematiche
The ability to learn the main contents of the course and to interpret the connections between the socio-economic processes illustrated in the lessons will be evaluated, both through the interaction with the teacher during the lectures and in the final exam. It is planned to create the possibility, during the classes, for an active participation of students, made possible also by the organization of seminars about some specific issues.
Il corso mira a stimolare gli studenti ad acquisire la capacità di comprenderele dinamiche che hanno contribuito all’attuale configurazione spaziale delle relazioni economiche, sociali e territoriali dei diversi Paesi e regioni del mondo. Si cercherà di sviluppare la capacità di utilizzare il linguaggio della geografia e di sviluppare competenze per interpretare l'impatto generato dai processi economici, sociali e politici, nonché le connessioni tra fenomeni che avvengono in diverse aree del sistema mondo.
The course aims to help students to acquire the ability to understand dynamics that have contributed to the current spatial configuration of the economic, social and territorial relations of the different countries and regions of the world. We will try to develop the ability to use the language of geography and to develop skills to interprete the impact generated by socio-economic and political processes as well as the connections between phenomena that occur in different areas of the world system.

Il corso affronterà i principali processi socio-economici in atto e i cambiamenti generati nel mondo contemporaneo, con approfondimenti nei seguenti ambiti: le nuove geografie della mondializzazione, la dialettica globale e locale, le crescenti dinamiche di urbanizzazione e dei flussi migratori, il ruolo delle città nella geografia mondiale, l'impatto delle tecnologie e delle piattaforme digitali, le diseguaglianze economiche e socio-territoriali, le disparità centro-periferia.
Quest'anno sarà dedicata particolare attenzione alla complessità delle città contemporanee, sia considerando le dinamiche di globalizzazione e di digitalizzazione che le interessano, che attraverso la lettura delle loro trasformazioni materiali e immateriali e delle fratture sociali e urbane stratificate nel tempo. Verranno presentate le teorie e metodologie di analisi più recenti provenienti dalla geografia e da altre discipline che si occupano di città, con particolare riguardo alla concezione di città come assemblaggio, al metabolismo urbano, allo smart e platform urbanism, le politiche di rappresentazione delle città globalizzate, le trasformazioni dei paesaggi urbani.
Le tematiche verranno trattate adottando diverse scale territoriali di riferimento (sistema mondo, Mediterraneo, Europa, Italia) e presentando casi di studio volti a esemplificare e ad approfondire gli argomenti trattati.
The course will cover the most recent economic and social changes that characterize the contemporary world, with particular attention to the following areas: the new gegraphies of globalization, the global and local dialectic, the growing dynamics of urbanization and the migration flows, the role of cities in world economic geography, the impact of technlogies and digital platforms, economic and socio-territorial inequalities, center-periphery disparities.
This year, particular attention will be paid to the complexity of contemporary cities, both considering the dynamics of globalization and digitization that affect them, and through the interpretation of their material and immaterial transformations and social and urban fractures stratified over time. The most recent theories and methodologies of analysis from geography and other disciplines will be presented, with particular regard to the conception of the city as an assemblage, urban metabolism, smart and platform urbanism, politics of representation in globalising cities, transformation of urban landscapes.
These issues will be coverd by adopting various territorial scales (world, Mediterranean, Italy) and presenting case studies aimed at providing examples about the topics discussed in class.
