Learning outcomes
Knowledge

The course aims to provide a basic knowledge of private law in general and a deeper understanding of the dynamics of family law.

In particular, the course aims to train the student destined to be employed in social services, therefore, in addition to the study of the basic institutes of the subject, it will favor in-depth study of their practical repercussions.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

Knowledge verification will take place at the end of the course with a final verbal exam. Optional in-progress written tests may be arranged with students.

Assessment criteria of skills

The skills are tested, in the oral examination, through discussion with the lecturers, and dialogues with other lecturers and professionals who are experts in the subject matter and who will give lessons in the course.

Behaviors

The student should be able to apply acquired knowledge, frame problems from a legal perspective, develop logical-legal reasoning, and identify applicable rules and solutions.

Assessment criteria of behaviors

During the course, students may be asked to solve simple practical cases with the lecturer, also by forming small working groups.

Prerequisites

No prior legal knowledge required

Teaching methods

Forty-two hours of face-to-face lectures are planned

Syllabus

Law and its sources; Rights and assets in general; Natural persons: Capacity, incapacity, vulnerability and measures of protection; Legal persons; Private autonomy and contract; Torts; Family law and its sources; Public intervention to protect the family and children; Protective orders against family abuse; Filiation; The relationship between parents and children and parental responsibility; Child custody in the division of the parental couple; Civil protection of the child; Adoption; The minor in the digital dimension; Succession because of death (briefly).

Constant consultation of an up-to-date civil code and other major normative reference texts is also recommended.

Any in-depth essays will be made available to students in the portal.

Assessment methods

The examination is conducted in verbal form. Passing the exam presupposes that the student demonstrates to have acquired the essential knowledge of the topics covered and is able to debate with a certain command of language that law, by its nature, requires.
