ETOLOGIA E GESTIONE DEGLI ANIMALI NEGLI IAA - VET08
Il corso ha lo scopo di fornire le conoscenze relative alla gestione degli animali negli interventi assistiti. In particolare, l’obiettivo è quello di acquisire conoscenze pertinenti alla corretta gestione sanitaria, ai principali indici di salute e di stress e al riconoscimento del dolore nel cane, cavallo, e ruminati. Lo studente acquisirà inoltre le conoscenze relative all’approccio ai disturbi comportamentali e alle stereotipie, nonché la legislazione sull’identificazione e sul benessere animale del cavallo e dei ruminanti.

Il corso ha lo scopo di fornire le conoscenze relative alla gestione comportamentale degli animali negli interventi assistiti. In particolare il corso fornirà conoscenze relative all'etologia di base e applicata del cane (con alcune nozioni anche sul gatto), ai segnali di stress, alla comunicazione e alla relazione con l'uomo. Inoltre il corso approfondirà le linee guida riguardante gli IAA.

Il corso si propone di fornire conoscenze etologiche e gestionali relative alla specie equina in funzione del suo impiego nell’ambito degli interventi assistiti dagli animali, in rapporto alla capacità di specie di relazionarsi con l'uomo nelle diverse attitudini sportive e ludico-ricreative e nelle possibilità di utilizzo anche in ambito terapeutico e riabilitativo. Lo studente acquisirà inoltre nozioni specifiche finalizzate alla gestione e alla scelta dei soggetti idonei da poter impiegare in tale ambito anche in funzione del loro benessere.
Durante le prime lezioni saranno spiegate le procedure di sicurezza e biosicurezza da rispettare durante lo svolgimento delle attività pratiche
ETHOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT OF ANIMALS IN IAA - VET08
The class aims to provide knowledge on the management of animals in animals’ assisted interventions. In particular, the objective would be to achieve a good knowledge about the proper health management, the right way to maintaining animals in good health and about the stress and pain indices in dogs and horses. The student will also acquire knowledge on the approach to behavioral disorders and stereotypes, as well as legislation about the correct identification and animal welfare of the horse, cattle and small ruminant.
During the first frontal lesson, the biosafety and biosecurity procedures that the students need to apply during the training session will be explained.
ETHOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT OF ANIMALS IN IAA - VET02
The class aims at providing knowledge on the behavioural management of animals in animals’ assisted interventions. In particular, the course will provide notions about the basic and applied ethology (and some notions on cats), the stress signals, the communication and relationship with humans. moreover, the course will deepen the guidelines about AAI.
ETHOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT OF ANIMALS IN IAA - AGR 19
The course is aimed at the acquisition by the student of ethological and managerial knowledge relating to the equine species according to its use in the social field in relation to the animal's ability to interact to the man, in his various sporting and recreational attitudes and in his possibilities of use in therapeutic and rehabilitation field. The student acquires specific notions aimed at knowing how to make the choice of the most suitable subjects to be used in this field also according to their wellbeing.
During the first lessons, the biosafety and biosecurity procedures to be respected during the practical activities will be explained.
La verifica dell’acquisizione delle conoscenze avverrà tramite prove in itinere e/o prova orale finale che verteranno/verterà sugli argomenti trattati durante le lezioni teoriche e pratiche.
Final oral exam. The student will be evaluated through ongoing tests and/or a final oral exam on topics discussed during the theoretical and practical lessons.

Lo studente acquisirà le nozioni per una corretta gestione sanitaria dell'animale, al fine di avvalersi correttamente della professionalità del Medico Veterinario e rispettare le scadenze annuali imposte quali profilassi vaccinali, trattamenti antiparassitari e ulteriori indagini necessarie. Acquisirà inoltre la capacità di riconoscere gli stati di benessere o malessere dei soggetti di cui è responsabile e di individuare correttamente il dolore al fine di rivolgersi al Veterinario per gli accertamenti.
Sarà inoltre guidata l'acquisizione delle conoscenze relative alla corretta gestione delle specie d'interresse al fine del mantenimento della loro salute.

Lo studente acquisirà le nozioni per una corretta gestione comportamentale dell'animale, in particolare del cane, sia durante le sessioni di IAA che al di fuori di esse. In particolare lo studente sarà in grado di riconoscere se il soggetto è stressato e come intervenire per ridurne lo stato di stress; di stabilire una buona relazione con il cane coterapeuta; di riconoscere un soggetto non idoneo agli IAA.

Lo studente acquisirà le nozioni e le conoscenze necessarie per poter operare una scelta dei soggetti, una corretta gestione ed una valutazione delle principali caratteristiche ed eventuali problematiche concernenti la relazione equide-uomo negli IAE e nelle diverse fasi delle attività sportive e ludiche che sviluppano tale contatto.

The student will acquire the information about the correct health management of the animals, in order to properly cooperate with the veterinarian. Also, the student will learn the annual sanitary deadlines for dogs such as vaccination prophylaxis, antiparasitic treatments and further necessary clinical investigations. It will also acquire the ability to recognize the states of well-being or discomfort of the animals and to identify the pain in order to call the veterinarian.
The student will also achieve the capacity to manage correctly each species (housing, behavior, health, etc.) in order to maintain their health.
ETHOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT OF ANIMALS IN IAA - VET02
The student will learn the correct behavioural management of the animal, in particular the dog, both during the AAI sessions and in other conditions. In detaul, the student will be able to recognise if the animal is stressed and how to intervene in order to reduce the state of stress; to establish a good relationship with the co-therapist dog; to recignise an animal as not suitable for AAI.

The course will provide the student with knowledge necessary to be able to make an assessment of the main characteristics and any problems concerning the horse-man relationship in the different phases of sporting and recreational activities that develop such contact.

Lo studente sarà in grado di lavorare in gruppo e approcciarsi al paziente secondo le normative vigenti sulla sicurezza nei luoghi di lavoro e per il benessere animale.
Lo studente, inoltre, dovrà imparare ad interagire in maniera equilibrata con il Medico Veterinario nella fase di comunicazione dell'anamnesi e dei segni clinici e atteggiamenti anomali da lui riscontrati con chiarezza adeguata.

Nell'ambito delle lezioni teoriche e delle attività pratiche lo studente dovrà manifestare una buona partecipazione ed avere un comportamento consapevole nei confronti degli animali osservati, in relazione alle loro necessità comportamentali e nel rispetto del loro benessere, secondo la normativa vigente su sicurezza e benessere animale. Lo studente dovrà inoltre saper comunicare in maniera corretta con gli operatori del settore utilizzando terminologia appropriata.
Indicazioni e procedure di sicurezza per attività relative a didattica pratica:
Le attività di campagna sono considerate a tutti gli effetti equiparabili a laboratori: ai sensi del D.M. n. 363/98 sono considerati laboratori “i luoghi o gli ambienti in cui si svolgono attività didattica, di ricerca o di servizio che comportano l'uso di macchine, di apparecchi ed attrezzature di lavoro, di impianti, di prototipi o di altri mezzi tecnici, ovvero di agenti chimici, fisici o biologici. Sono considerati laboratori, altresì, i luoghi o gli ambienti ove si svolgono attività al di fuori dell'area edificata della sede, quali, ad esempio, campagne archeologiche, geologiche, marittime”.
Per le attività sperimentali utilizzare indumenti dedicati e tali da coprire completamente almeno le gambe (no pantaloni corti); indossare calzature idonee tali da fornire adeguata copertura al piede (no ballerine o sandali), per proteggere da perforazioni, imbrattamenti, abrasioni etc... Evitare, se possibile, parti del corpo non coperte da indumenti per limitare l’esposizione di superfici corporee a ectoparassiti che fornisca ad essi un varco d’accesso ed il contatto con vegetazione urticante o tale da scatenare reazioni allergiche (fitodermatiti). Al termine delle attività in ambiente esterno non urbano (boschivo, palustre, campi…), prima di risalire in auto, ispezionare gli indumenti per escludere la presenza di ectoparassiti (ad es. zecche).
Per la manipolazione ed il prelievo di campioni ambientali/biologici e per la manipolazione di animali adoperare sempre guanti monouso, preferibilmente in nitrile. Qualora fosse necessaria una sensibilità maggiore data dalle mani nude, per manipolazioni particolari, avere cura di coprire completamente eventuali piccole ferite e/o abrasioni con cerotti e procedere immediatamente dopo alla disinfezione delle mani. Non portare le mani alla bocca o al viso mentre si lavora in ambiente aperto con matrici ambientali o con animali; procedere al termine delle attività al lavaggio delle mani (o se non c’è disponibilità di acqua adoperare un gel lavamani) soprattutto prima di mangiare o bere.
Nelle attività in cui il rischio di imbrattamento è elevato utilizzare tute monouso con un grado di protezione idoneo alle attività da svolgere. Per attività continuative in ambiente aperto nel periodo estivo, dotarsi di protezione contro rischio da calore e da radiazioni solari: copertura del capo, scorta di acqua, occhiali da sole e creme solari protettive, vestiario di cotone chiaro e traspirante.

The student will be able to work in group and to approach the patient safety and in line with the animal's welfare.
Furthermore, the student will learn how to interact with the Veterinarian for the history communication and for the communication of clinical signs and alterate behaviors of the animal.

The student will be able to work in group, in particular to distiguish the different roles of the multidisciplinary team, and to intervene in order to protect the animal when needed.

Within the lectures and practical lessons learned, the student must demonstrate good participation and must behave in a manner consistent with what is taught in the course with regard to the observed animals, in relation to their behavioral needs and respecting their well-being, and to assume an appropriate attitude and know how to communicate with appropriate language also with regard to the animal care staff.
Indications and safety procedures for activities relating to practical teaching:
Campaign activities are considered to all intents and purposes comparable to laboratories: pursuant to the M.D. n. 363/98, laboratories are considered to be "the places or environments in which teaching, research or service activities are carried out which involve the use of machines, work apparatus and equipment, systems, prototypes or other technical means, or chemical, physical or biological agents. Also considered laboratories are places or environments where activities are carried out outside the built-up area of the headquarters, such as, for example, archaeological, geological and maritime campaigns".
For experimental activities, use dedicated clothing that completely covers at least the legs (no shorts); wear suitable footwear that provides adequate coverage for the foot (no ballet flats or sandals), to protect against perforations, soiling, abrasions etc... Avoid, if possible, parts of the body not covered by clothing to limit the exposure of body surfaces to ectoparasites that provide them with access and contact with stinging vegetation or vegetation capable of triggering allergic reactions (phytodermatitis). At the end of activities in a non-urban outdoor environment (woods, marshes, fields...), before getting back into the car, inspect your clothing to exclude the presence of ectoparasites (e.g. ticks).
For handling and taking environmental/biological samples and for handling animals, always use disposable gloves, preferably nitrile. If greater sensitivity due to bare hands is necessary for particular manipulations, take care to completely cover any small wounds and/or abrasions with plasters and proceed immediately afterwards with disinfection of the hands. Do not put your hands in your mouth or face while working in an open environment with environmental matrices or with animals; at the end of the activities, wash your hands (or if there is no water available, use a hand washing gel), especially before eating or drinking.
In activities where the risk of soiling is high, use disposable overalls with a level of protection suitable for the activities to be carried out. For continuous activities in an open environment in the summer period, equip yourself with protection against the risk of heat and solar radiation: head covering, water supply, sunglasses and protective sun cream, light and breathable cotton clothing.

The exam consists of an interview between the candidate and the teacher, during which kwoledge will be tested with questions relating to the topics covered during the course. The test is considered passed if the student demonstrates that he has learned the concepts provided during the course by expressing them clearly and using the correct and appropriate terminology.
