Gli studenti acquisiranno la conoscenza di base dei concetti, delle teorie e dei metodi di ricerca usati negli studi sui movimenti sociali e la partecipazione politica. Il corso darà allo studente esempi dettagliati di ricerca empirica.
Students will acquire the basic knowledge on the concepts, theories and research methods used in social movements and political participation literature. The class will give to the students detailed examples of empirical research on protest and non-conventional participation.
La verifica delle conoscenze acquisite dagli studenti avverrà attraverso una approfondito esame orale sui testi in programma. Soltanto per i frequentanti è prevista una modalità di verifica delle conoscenze acquisite attraverso l'elaborazione di una tesina di ricerca su uno dei temi del corso.
the assessment of the knowledge acquired by students will be done through an in-depth oral exam. For attending students only, the assessment will be done through an elaboration of a research paper on one of the issues of the class and a midterm oral or written examination
Alla fine del corso gli studenti avranno imparato a elaborare un progetto di ricerca sui temi della partecipazione politica, indicando gli strumenti concettuali, teorici e metodologici necessari per la sua realizzazione.
At the end of the class, students will be able to elaborate a research project on political participation, by reconstructing the conceptual, theoretical and methodological tools necessary for its implemantation.
La verifica delle capacità acquisite dagli studenti avverrà attraverso una approfondito esame orale sui testi in programma. Soltanto per i frequentanti è prevista una modalità di verifica delle capacità acquisite attraverso l'elaborazione di una tesina di ricerca su uno dei temi del corso. In quest'ultimo caso lo studente sarà invitato a presentare il progetto di tesina nelle lezioni conclusive del corso e dovrà presentare l'elaborato scritto e finale entro un anno dalla fine del corso.
The assessment of the skills acquired by students will be done through an in-depth oral exam in each of the review sessions. For attending students only, the assessment will be done through an elaboration of a research paper on one of the issues of the class and a midterm oral or written examination . In the latter case, students will present their paper project during the class and will have a maximum of one year period to elaborate and implement the project.

the assessment of such behaviours will be done through the oral examination taking place in each review session. For attending students only, the assessment will be done through an elaboration of a research paper on one of the issues of the class. In this case, students will be invited to present their research projects at the end of the class and will have to produce the final draft of the thesis by one year since the end of the class
Il corso sarà organizzato attraverso lezioni in streaming (alcune delle quali registrate), con l'aiuto di slide concettuali, foto e video.
The course will be organized through online classes with the help of conceptual slides, photos and videos.
IL corso sarà dedicato allo studio dei movimenti sociali e agli approcci usati nella letteratura : Structural approaches, Historical Sociology, Sociological Intervention, Cultural approach, Historical and Contemporary Social Movements; Action Research, : Marxist theory; Collective behaviour e collective action theory; Relative deprivation theory; Value added theory; Resource Mobilization; Frame Analysis, Theory; New Social Movements; e Virtual movements, clicktivism and hacktivism. Insieme a questo sarà molto approfondito l'aspetto metodologico e numerosi esempi di ricerca empirica sui temi del corso saranno forniti agli studenti.
The course is dedicated to social movements studies and to their several theoretical approach: Structural approaches, Historical Sociology, Sociological Intervention, Cultural approach, Historical and Contemporary Social Movements; Action Research, : Marxist theory; Collective behaviour and collective action theory; Relative deprivation theory; Value added theory; Resource Mobilization; Frame Analysis, Theory; New Social Movements; and Virtual movements, clicktivism and hacktivism.
Particularly, attention will be paid to the relations between those actors in the context of contemporary democracies. Moreover, we will analyse in details pieces of empirical research on social movements and protest, by emphasising the methods used in this research.

In-depth oral examination on the texts included in the syllabus. Only for attending students is there a method of assessment through the development of a short research paper on one of the course themes. In this latter case, the student will be invited to present the research paper project in the concluding lessons of the course and must submit the final written paper within one year from the end of the course."
