Programma A.A. 2023-2024
In order to provide students with knowledge of 1) the categories and 2) the themes that have characterised aesthetic reflection over time, the lectures start from Greek antiquity, specifically from Damon, Plato and Aristotle. The reconstruction of the historical events that occurred in what were to become the aesthetic categories will continue through the reflection on beauty and art in the medieval era, to arrive at the 18th century, the constitutive century of Aesthetics as an autonomous discipline. Particular attention will be paid to the questions that have characterised aesthetic reflection in the 20th century, especially since the second half of the century, orienting the discourse, both in the theoretical-artistic field and in the field of communication and theory of culture. With this in mind, attention will be paid to the contribution made by aesthetics to reflection on media of a digital nature, in their artistic applications. As every year, the lectures identify a specific topic, which is the historical nature of sensory activity and the contribution that different media and artistic epochs have made to the education of the human senses.
Each topic addressed in the course of the lectures will be developed through the analysis and commentary of excerpts from the main reference works of the individual thinkers covered. To facilitate the assimilation of the contents, discussion sessions of the analysed texts will be organised during the lessons.
In addition to the oral lectures held by the lecturer, the teaching programme includes scheduled assessment sessions to ensure the assimilation of the contents provided by the group of attending students.
The programme for NON-attending students consists of the study of the following textbook, EXCLUDING chapters 3 and 4: F. Desideri, C. Cantelli, Storia dell'Estetica occidentale. From Homer to neuroscience, Rome, Carocci, 2020. The choice of another edition of the textbook is allowed, after agreement with the teacher.
