To achieve high levels of automation, vehicles will be equipped with an increasing number of sensors. This means that broadband connectivity appears critical to enabling vehicles and infrastructure to increase coverage distance and reliability. In addition, connectivity makes other applications such as 'infotainment' or high levels of traffic coordination possible. However, the development of the next-generation high-performance vehicle connectivity systems is not independent. In fact, a significant new model is emerging based on the joint design of communication, radar sensing and localization functions, whose integration and cooperation allows for greater spectral and energy efficiency, reduction in the size and cost of the devices, and a significant improvement in performance.
