Conoscenze

Knowledge

The student will be able to carry out the activities required in the various stages of marketing research: problem identification, choice of the research design, creation of the tools to detect data (qualitative or quantitative), data processing and presentation of the research's output.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

The knowledge will be verified through questions addressed to students during and at the end of the lessons, and by evaluating the written report (research report) expected at the end of the course.

  • saprà organizzare i dati raccolti in database strutturati
  • saprà elaborare i dati e costruire tabelle e grafici
Skills

The student will be able:

  • to recognize in which business or market situations it is appropriate to carry out a marketing research
  • to know how to set the correct methodology to carry out quantitative or qualitative marketing research
  • to know how to overcome the difficulties  related to the collection of primary data
  • to construct structured questionnaires to perform surveys and traces for the conduct of focus groups
  • to perform different types of interviews (face-to-face interview, online interviews, focus groups, etc.)
  • to organize the data collected in databases
  • to process the data and produce tables and graphs
  • to organize the presentation of the results
  • to query the following databases: EBSCO, EMERALD, AIDA, etc.

Assessment criteria of skills

During the lessons an exercise will be organized in collaboration with a company-partner. The manager of the partner-company will expose students to their knowledge needs, connected to real market problems. Students will translate these knowledge needs into a marketing research project that will allow them to apply the knowledge and the tools learned. As part of this exercise, students will learn how to build different types of reports, including: the Research Proposal (to define the contents and objectives of the research) and the Research Report to present the results achieved.

Comportamenti

Lo studente:

  • comprenderà l’importanza che le ricerche di mercato e di marketing assumono nell’ambito della gestione aziendale;
Behaviors

The student:

  • will understand the importance of market and marketing research in the field of management;
  • will work in a group and, in particular, will be able to manage the problems that can occur in a team ("group dynamics")
  •  will be able to select secondary data sources (public, such as ISTAT and private ones, such as Nielsen or IRI) more suitable to find the necessary data
  •  will be able to deal with the depositaries of the information useful for research and to carry out the interviews correctly.

Assessment criteria of behaviors

The relevance of the questions that the students will address to the teacher (during the lessons or through the e-learning platform) will be taken into account.
During the group work the methods for defining responsibilities, management and organization of the activities necessary for carrying out the research will be verified.

Prerequisiti (conoscenze iniziali)

Prerequisites

In-depth knowledge of the Italian language is required (spoken and written).
Moreover, in order to successfully follow the course, the student must know the topics presented in the courses of General Mathematics, Statistics and Economics and business management. It is also recommended to take the examinations of the 1st year of the course in Marketing and market research (in particular Marketing management and Statistics for market research).

Indicazioni metodologiche

Non-attending students info

The exam consists only of a written test.
The test consists in part of "open" questions and, in part, of "multiple choice" questions . Exercises that require algebraic calculations or the application of the formulas learned during the course may also be requested. The breakdown between "open" and "closed" questions is variable and depends on the overall level of difficulty of the individual task. The exam usually lasts one hour and takes place in traditional classrooms depending on the availability of the Department's premises and the number of candidates. The test, if passed, remains valid until the next appeal. In case of unsatisfactory grade, the student can repeat the test, but in this case the grade obtained in the previous test is canceled.
The test results are communicated via e-mail at the end of the task correction.
When verbalising the votes, it is possible to view the correct task and to have information on the type of errors committed.

The test is passed if the student obtains at least 50% of the total score that derives from the sum of the scores assigned to the questions of the task.
