Learning outcomes
Conoscenze

Introduzione: le tecniche della tettonica e le sue finalità. L’approccio multidisciplinare e multiscalare negli studi tettonici. Il trasferimento di scala dall’analisi dall’affioramento all’analisi regionale. I campi di deformazione, la simmetria strutturale e la ripartizione della deformazione.

1) Tettonica e cinematica: dagli aspetti teorici alle strutture deformative. Deformazione distribuita e localizzata. Shear Zone e Faglie. Anatomia, architettura e modalità di crescita

3) La reologia della litosfera. Richiami alle nozioni di crosta e litosfera. Deformazione fragile e plastica. L’inviluppo reologico e fattori che ne determinano la variabilità.

4) Tettonica e deformazione sperimentale: Studio analogico e modellizzazione delle strutture e dei processi tettonici .

6) Tettonica e metamorfismo: evoluzione termo-meccanica nei diversi ambienti tettonici – cenni.

7) Tettonica e magmatismo: strutture magmatiche nei diversi ambienti tettonici – cenni.

8) Sismotettonica e deformazione attiva.  Tettonica attiva e morfologia nei diversi ambienti cinematici.

9) I sistemi di subduzione e i sistemi orogenici non collisionali. Aspetti fisiografici, elementi strutturali principali e tipologie di sistemi di subduzione. Caratteristiche generali e analisi di sistemi orogenici non-collisionali: Le Ande.

10) I sistemi orogenici collisionali: la collisione arco-continente e quella continente-continente. Analisi dei sistemi orogenici di Taiwan, Himalaya, Alpi e Appennino.

 

Alla fine del Corso lo studente dovrà essere in grado di identificare, descrivere e classificare le strutture e le associazioni strutturali dei diversi ambienti tettonici regionali. 

Knowledge

Contents to be developed in the frame of daily field excursions.

THE PLATES KINEMATICS AND THE CONTINENTAL DEFORMATION: current plates and microplates, direction, relative motion and rates of movement. Finite, recent and present-day kinematics. The intracontinental deformation.

RHEOLOGY OF THE CONTINENTAL LITHOSPHERE. Crust and lithosphere. Brittle and plastic deformation. The rheologic envelope. Strain localization and delocalization mechanisms.

TECTONIC AND EXPERIMENTAL DEFORMATION: Analog and numerical modelling of structures and tectonic processes.

TECTONICS AND DEFORMATION STRUCTURES: Structures, architecture and morphostructural features of contractional, extensional, transform and strike-slip settings. Reactivation and inversion tectonics.

TECTONICS AND METAMORPHISM: Thermo-mechanical evolution of the crust and tectonic settings.

SEISMOTECTONICS AND ACTIVE DEFORMATION. Global tectonics and earthquakes. Focal mechanisms and styles of faulting. Aseismic and seismic activity. Geodesy and active tectonics. Tectonic geomorphology.

SUBDUCTION SYSTEMS AND NON COLLISIONAL OROGENS: Physiographic characters, main structural elements and typology of subduction systems . General characters and analysis of non-collisional orogens.

COLLISIONAL OROGENS: the arc-continent and the continent-continent collision setting. Taiwan and the Himalaya orogens.

RECENT AND ACTIVE TECTONICS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN REGION AND ITALY. The main tectonic provinces of the Mediterranean region. Present-day kinematics GPS data and seismotectonics. The Apennines: tectonic problems and seismicity

 

Learning outcomes

The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability of identify and classify structures and system of structures related with different tectonic context. Moreover he will be able to demonstrate knowledge in critical bibliography analyses, collecting data and using them to discuss regional- to local-scale tectonic setting.

- The student will be assessed on her/his demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology and additionally on the ability to prepare a web presentation on a subject related to the tectonics.

Sistemi di subduzione ed orogeni non collisionali: Caratteristiche fisiografiche, elementi strutturali e tipologie di subduzioni.  Caratteri generali ed analisi di sistemi orogenici non collisionali: Le Ande.

Sistemi orogenici collisionali: La collisione continente continente e continente arco insulare. Caratteristiche generali ed analisi di sistemi orogenici collisionali: Himalaya, Taiwan, Alpi e Appennino
