Conoscenze

Knowledge

The students will be able to evaluate and to discriminate the major threats of the coastal systems. They will be able to define the causes and propose mitigation plans. In particular, they will aquire basic knowledge to define risks and vulnerability related to coastal erosion, coastal flooding and to the response of the coasts to extreme events.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

The knowledge of the topics will be tested during the fieldtrips that will be carried out at the end of the class. The comprehension of the concepts and the competence of the students will be assessed during the oral exam: also, they have to use the correct technical language to show the skills they gained attending the class.

  • identificare cause e fattori legati all'insorgere dei rischi costieri;
  • individuare le tecniche di monitoraggio più adatte ad ogni situazione;
Skills

At the end of the class the student will be able to:

  • identify causes and driving factors of coastal risks;
  • point out the best practices for coastal monitoring;
  • interact and communicate with each actor involved in coastal management (experts, local authorities, stakeholders, etc.).

Assessment criteria of skills

Oral exam and a report about the activities carried out during the fieldtrips.

Comportamenti

Lo studente dovrà dimostrare attitudine a:

  • sviluppare curiosità per gli argomenti trattati ed autonomia nell'affrontarli;
  • lavorare in gruppo durante le lezioni fuori sede;
  • condividere dati ed osservazioni;
Behaviors

The student will have to show attitude in:

  • developing interest in the topic of the class;
  • collaborating with the other students during the field activities;
  • sharing data and observations;
  • summarizing all the data in the final, individual report.
Modalità di verifica dei comportamenti

Durante l'escursione sarà verificato:

  • il grado di scrupolosità e correttezza nell'osservazione, nell'acquisizione del dato, e nel confronto tra osservazione e dato;
  • la capacità di separare osservazione e dato dall'interpretazione;
Assessment criteria of behaviors

During the field activities the following attitudes will be evaluated:

  • the degree of accuracy in observation, data acquisition, and the comparison between observation and data;
  • the capability to separate observations and raw data from the interpretation;
  • the level of maturity of the interpretation.
Prerequisiti (conoscenze iniziali)

Programma (contenuti dell'insegnamento)

Piattaforma In Risk. Early Warning System (EWS).
