Learning outcomes
Knowledge
Main aim of the course is to furnish to the student an advanced knowledge about animal health issues and related strategies for prevention and control. In particular, the student should be able to demonstrate that he has acquired a good knowledge useful for: recognizing the major infectious and parasitic diseases of farmed animals, the related diagnostic techniques and different methods of prevention and control; planning biosecurity measures necessary to prevent the onset and spread of infectious and parasitic diseases in order to guarantee animal health and quality of products; assessing the potential public health aspects related to infectious and parasitic disease.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. - During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression

Syllabus
Principal factors conditioning the outbreak of transmissible diseases in different farming systems - Economic losses due to transmissible diseases iā€“ National and international normative concerning the infectious and parasitic diseases of productive animals ā€“ Overview of the direct prophylaxis measures adopted against main infectious and parasitic diseases - Measures of prevention and control applied against the main transmissible diseases of farmed animals - Public health aspects linked to infectious and parasitic fish diseases caused by zoonotic agents -Disinfection, therapy and vaccination theoretical, practical and normative considerations.
