Knowledge
The student will be able to demostrate knowledge of main Analytical Instrumentation for on-line or remote monitoring and control of chemical process.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oralexam the student's ability to explain correctly the main topics presented during the course will be assessed.

Syllabus
The course covers the following topics: Identification of the strategic parameters necessary for the study and control of chemical and biochemical processes on pilot and industrial plants. Analytical instrumentation selection for on line monitoring of chemical composition and control. Overview of the most important analyzers and study of their operational principles, range of applicability, accuracy and dynamic behavior. Overview of industrial analyzer and case studies. Analytical instrumentation classification and topics. • systems based on the interaction of energy and matter: spectrophotometry and UV, Visible and IR equipments. Molecular and atomic absorption, fluorescence , emission spectrofotometry, application and use of optical fibers, optical remote sensing. • Electrochemical principles and sensors. Potentiometric, amperometric, and conductometric devices and applications (pH, Oxidation-Reduction potential “ORP”, dissolved oxygen “D.O.”, salinity, etc.) • Mass Spectrometry • Chromatography and Gas-Cromatography: Theory and applications, type of Gascromatographs , injectors, columns, detectors and on-line operability
