Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to a) master the basic functions of a single network technologies and of internetworks; this knowledge will be organised in a hierarchical and structured form such as internationally recommended by standardized reference models. b) distinguish between applications and service/transport architectures c) understanding the relevance of reliability, Quality of Service, Multicasting, Mobility and performances in all these functional aspects; he will be able to demostrate a solid knowledge a) on the difference between logical and physical functions; b) on the formats of the different information units standardised at the different levels of the architecture; c) on the functions/protocols (tipically distributed) that characterise the different level of the architectures; he will be able to operate on commercial devices and design/implement his own device in an open environment using hardware software co-design
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.
- During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.
- The student's ability to explain correctly the main topics presented during the course with slides and annotations will be assessed.
- With the oral presentation, the student must demonstrate the ability to approach a specific technical/architectural problem, and organise an effective exposition of the results.
- The student must demonstrate the ability to put into practice and to execute, with critical awareness, the activities illustrated on the LabsMethods:
- Final oral exam
- Periodic Quizzes/multiple choice
- Laboratory practical
Further information:
A series of multiple choice quizzes is given at the end of each lesson (for self assessment). Before the final oral exam a subset of randomly extracted quizzes are proposed to the students.
The Lab activity is evaluated with oral/practical final Lab sessions (to be passed independently from the oral exam and the quizzes)
