Learning outcomes
Knowledge
Through a detailed analysis, performed at the morpho-functional and molecular levels, of the eukaryotic animal cells, the course aims to provide students with the basic notions and concepts that are essential to their cultural background, as well as preparatory to the study of multiple academic disciplines in the curriculum. Minimum targets, i.e. the capacity that the course is proposed that a student will achieve after passing the exam, can be summarized as follows: - acquisition of fundamental knowledge, at the ultrastructural, cyto-physiological and molecular levels, relating to prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells; - acquisition of a basic scientific language.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss all the topics included in the program of the exam thoughtfully and with propriety of expression

Methods:

  • Final oral exam

Teaching methods

Delivery: face to face

Learning activities:

  • attending lectures

Attendance: Not mandatory

Teaching methods:

  • Lectures

Syllabus
Levels of organization of the protoplasm. Structural organization of prokaryotic cells. Morpho-functional analysis of eukaryotic cells: ultrastructural and molecular caracherization of the plasma membrane, nucleus, organelles and cytoplasmic structures. Examples of differentiated cells and their organization in tissues. Cell cycle: interphase and mitosis. Somatic and germ lines. Gametogenesis. Meiosis. Fertilization. Stages of embryonic development examined in some model organisms. Cell differentiation.
