Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to approach the field studies through a multidisciplinary method involving sedimentology, geomorphology, stratigraphy, tectonic, applied geology, mineralogy, volcanology. The student will be able to understand the complexity of field studies and the relationships existing among the various disciplines that compose the geology. The student will be able to elaborate a report where the field activity is exhaustive described in the frame of the wider geological context.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main field trip contents using the appropriate terminology and the correct methodological approach. The ability to distinguish data from interpretations is a key point for the evaluation. The student will produce a report consisting in: an abstract both in English and Italian languages; the key words list (Italian and English); an introduction and a geological setting of the study area through a appropriate bibliographic research; the field trip stop description documented by photos and/or sketches; the overall discussion follow by the conclusions enclosed in a few schematic points; the full list of references.

Methods:

  • Final oral exam
  • Written report

Further information:
The degree of participation and interest to the activity of field trip. The quality of the final report. The ability to put in relationship the different themes tackled.

Teaching methods

Delivery: face to face

Learning activities:

  • attending lectures
  • preparation of oral/written report
  • participation in discussions
  • individual study
  • group work
  • Bibliography search
  • Practical

Attendance: Mandatory

Teaching methods:

  • Lectures
  • project work

Syllabus
Introductory lectures will be focused on the different geological perspective characterizing the selected area of study. These activities will predate the start of the field trip. Four days long field trip in an area of interest from a geological point of view. The choice of the area will be driven by two criteria: the possibility to tackle different geological themes and the good educational effectiveness.
Bibliography
The power point slides are the recommended material of study. Specific scientific papers will be stated as function to the selected Field area.
