Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of Russian History from the Origins to the Bolshevik Revolution; Russian Literature from the Age of Peter the Great (18th Century) to the Bolshevik Revolution (Pushkin, Gogol', Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Chekhov and other Authors); contemporary Russian Federal State Organization and Russian Politics.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.

Syllabus
The course covers the general chronological framework of Modern Russian History, understood as European and world history from 18th to 1917.
Particular attention will be paid to themes such as the Westernization of Russian Society by Peter the Great, the Abolition of Serfdom, the relationships between Russia and West Europeans Nations; the birth and the Developement of a modern Literature; the evolution of political systems and the Causes of October Revolution.
