Knowledge
This course covers both theory and practical knowledge of modern network management and traffic accounting. It also introduces practical problems that will be tackled during this course. Students will be practicing with common open source tools that can be profitably used in the field.

Syllabus
Part I: Theory.
Introduction and overview of IP networks from the management point of view.
Standards and protocols for network management.
Network management paradigms and methods: description and comparisons.
Part II: Laboratory
Exercises on the topics introduced in part I.
Net communications in the Linux kernel and soluitons for trafic analysis.
Analysis of net tools (firewalls, IPS/IDS).
Analysis of Open Source and proprietary network management tools.
