Learning outcomes
Knowledge
Students are expected to acquire basic knowledge on vector spaces,linear maps, matrices, computation of determinant and eigenvalues of a matrix, systems of linear equations, affine and euclidean geometry in the plane and space. Students are expected to acquire operational skills with basic mathematical instruments for the study and analysis of physical laws and the resolution of engineering problems.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
In the written exam the student must be able to demonstrate her/his knowledge of the content of the unit's program by applying the correct resolution methods. In the oral exam the student will be asked to demonstrate her/his understanding of the unit's program by making use of the correct terminology and by critically applying the various theoretical concepts acquired.

Syllabus
Linear Algebra: Geometric vectors, Gaussian elimination and linear systems, vector spaces, linear maps, matrices and linear maps, determinants, complex numbers, scalar product of vectors, eigenvalue, eigenvectors, spectral theorem. Analytic Geometry in the plane and space, curves and surfaces, real quadratic forms, conics and quadrics.
