Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of communication signals, how they are filtered, transmitted and received. The student will also know details of signal modulations for wireless transmission and will have knowledge of a communication system architecture, both in terms of the transmission and reception sites. He/She will also understand the concept of noise, how this is introduced in the signal and its effect on a digital communication. The student will also be able to fully understand concepts such a signal bandwidth, bit rate, bit error rate and communication quality of service.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. The student must also be able to solve specific problems related to the course material.
