Knowledge
The aim of the course is to provide a detailed overview of the main systems on board typical civil aircraft. The principle of working of each system is described. For some systems, simple analytical tools for a preliminary design are given. Moreover, suitable commercial computer codes are used to simulate the dynamics of some system components.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents, using the appropriate terminology, and to outline the sketches of the main system architectures, as illustrated during the course.

Syllabus
The first part of the course focuses on reliability prediction and modelling, in order to understand how to design systems to ensure safety. Then, the course approaches the systems for power conversion and distribuition (hydraulic plant, electrical plant, pneumatic plant). Other typical aircraft systems are described, such as landing gears, wheel braking system, flight control system, ice protection system, fuel system, environmental control system. Lastly, the principle of functioning of the main flight instruments is igiven (altimeter, airspeed indicator, variometer, magnetic compass, directional gyro, hartificial horizon.
Bibliography
The slides of all the lessons and exercises are available on a web page. Further bibliography will be indicated.
