Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the theoretical development of money and banking theory from Hume to Keynes. He or she will be able to think about theoretical development as a non linear progress and to discern among the main theoretical schools.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
In the written exam (90 minutes, choice of 2 essay questions), the student must demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and to organise an effective and correctly written reply.

Syllabus
The course covers the development of monetary and financial theory from Hume to Keynes, reading directly the authors’ works. Particular attention will be paid to the more general historical framework in which theories evolved.
